First fantasy novel I've been able to physically read in a really long time. That's how good this was: I'm out of my physical reading slump. About to go into the novella and I can't wait for the sequel to come out!
This hit really close to home and was a really emotional read for me. The highs and lows of bipolar disorder were reflected really well in this. Seeing how that can turn out and understanding it was heartbreaking. There were times when I felt like my heart was on the page.
Enjoyed the art style and the way the author communicates her ideas and expresses her feelings. It feels a lot like a journal and less like a cohesive narrative to me. It felt a bit disjointed at times.
The mystery itself was super interesting and I liked the way the murder was committed. But, this is DEFINITELY a product of its time and didn't age well when it comes to mentions of BIPOC characters.
This is probably the first cozy mystery that I've actually thoroughly enjoyed and wanted to continue on in the series. It's a product of its time in some of the wording regarding members of the LGBTQIA+ community. Other than that, I think it's still a good mystery that holds up.
This was a fantastic depiction of how easily someone impressionable and in just the right circumstances can end up in a cult and committing acts they never would have thought of. Choosing to tell this story from the perspective of a woman looking back on her life was the best way she could have gone about showing the reader how easy it can be to be drawn in by a charismatic leader, such as Charles Manson.
Not my favorite of Goldin's backlist, but still super solid. The concept is wild and the twist at the end is super good. You could probably guess the twist if you've read the rest of her backlist, but I wasn't able to until just before.
Enjoyed the story as well as all the Jewish culture included. As someone who isn't Jewish, it felt like a really accessible way to learn about the culture and history.
You definitely see Miss Marple aging further in this one. I'm loving that thread throughout this series. The twist and the reveal weren't expected AT ALL and they hit me hard. So far this might be my favorite.
Really love this premise so much! Such an unlikely circumstance and such a great execution. I appreciate that Miss Marple has to work around her age and limitations to solve this one. She deals with real problems instead of everything magically being solved for her.
