I bought this book as a gift for my sister at her request and in doing so acquired the ebook for free - to my delight as the topic sounded highly interesting. I didn't realize that the bulk of the book was a series of interviews, but I learned a great deal from them. I'm not sure about how to rate this book because I too rarely read non-fiction, but I found it extremely well put together, informative, and motivating.

I really enjoyed this short story collection. I've definitely realized that I react much more favorably to genre short stories than realistic fiction short stories, a more pronounced preference than the same comparison for novels. Imaginative and generally satisfying.

I saw Sabrina Vourvoulias speak on a panel about Latinx literature earlier this year and when she described her book I knew I had to read it! Ink imagines a near future where immigrants are given color coded tattoos: temporary workers, permanent residents, and even US citizens who "recently" immigrated are subject to these tattoos which encode a unique identification number. This is unfortunately just the beginning of the oppressive policies which are instituted over the course of this chillingly honest novel. This is one of those books that reading is simultaneously wonderful and deeply upsetting. Vourvoulias is a gifted writer and I was immersed in the story of these characters and her beautiful writing. It's a gorgeous novel but also a powerful rallying cry to fight xenophobia whenever it rears its ugly head. I was surprised and captivated by the presence of magic in this book, which never felt fantastical but meshed perfectly with the real world setting. The cast of characters is buried deep in my heart. Highly recommend, all the stars!

A satisfying conclusion to a favorite series.

I didn't know the structure of this novel going in, and so the beginning third was not what I expected and felt slow even though I read it fairly quickly. Then! It ends with the most tightly paced conclusion that brings together all the arcs. A huge story that's simultaneously about only a few moments. Very insightful, I'm so glad I read this.

A sweet story with a lot of heart. I could have done without the constant derision towards the princess, but otherwise enjoyed the colorful cast. The ending had me tearing up. I could imagine having a lot of fun reading this book to a kid.

Wow. This book. I found the story initially fairly hard to follow, but it completely paid off my effort. I won't summarize too much and deprive you of the joy of discovery, but this novel follows the experience of Bernice, a Cree woman, as she shuts down from the world and goes on an extended journey through space and time, experiencing dreams and her own memories, and healing from hurts of her past. Cw here for sexual assault perpetrated by family members. Lindberg's writing is poetic and beautiful, and Bernice and her “madefamily” are unforgettable characters. This is going to be a book I'm thinking about and recommending for a long time!

“She is hungry for family. For the women she loves. For the sounds of her language. For the peace of no introduction, no backstory, no explanation.”

GOODNESS THIS BOOK BLEW MY EXPECTATIONS OUT OF THE WATER! It was a perfectly timed read for me, and I found it un-put-down-able and full of heart. This story never drops a beat, and I was captivated by April May and her story, which speaks thoughtfully about humanity in so many surprising and lovely moments. I found it especially cool how the story delves into fame in a really honest way which I found to be obviously influenced by Green's own experiences becoming viral and internet/real life famous in ways that surprised him. I had only a couple issues while reading the book, and the first was just a way in which the story was doing its job right in making me uncomfortable. The second is a strong desire to have seen the story continued much longer! It does end pretty well but also sequel please?

Edit I found out there is a sequel. Squeeeeeee!

Unfortunately this book just falls in the not totally for me camp. There were many good things going here but I struggled a lot with the romantic drama.
