Unbeatable characters and a fascinating setting. The plot unfolded with appropriate timing. I'm excited but nervous to see where the trilogy goes next.

Finally powered through this collection. I usually struggle with short stories but all these were especially trying to read, and left me completely unsure what to do with or take away from them. I think I half enjoyed two of them? Gotta finish the other collection I've been also muddling through and be done with it.

I trudged thorough this collection alongside A Good Man is Hard to Find, and was surprised at their similarity. Again I found the stories to be frustrating, but several in this collection actually made me angry at the experience of reading them. I was raging to my husband at one point that such awful useless things could be written with the expectation that people would choose to spend their life reading them. Then some of the later stories partly redeemed the collection, finally succeeding at the horror vibe I had hoped for. The Glazers was my favorite, and I actually really enjoyed it.

A fun, suspenseful, really well paced book. I just loved Isaiah.

Finally Changes! I've been looking forward to reading this one since I noticed the pattern with the titles. There were some qualms I had with this book, but the ending came together in classic Dresden epic fashion, except arguably more f-ed up than usual. Seriously messed up heartbreaking stuff. And a cliffhanger ending, which I think is a first for the series. I was going to start the next one tomorrow anyway but geeze. I have a lot more thoughts but they're all spoilers so I'll leave it there.

I was really excited to read this book after reading this snarky interview with its author while contemplating purchasing it on ebook sale (https://www.theguardian.com/books/2016/sep/16/ottessa-moshfegh-interview-book-started-as-joke-man-booker-prize-shortlist) When I started reading I found myself more skeptical than I'd expected, but when Rebecca finally arrives on the scene things picked up. I think this was actually a pretty interesting story, but it felt like it took too long to get there. I wasn't really sure what to do with what I was reading for the first half of the 200 page book, and wasn't particularly enjoying myself, although the narrator constantly interested me in an uncomfortable way. I do feel glad I read this book, and I'm glad that the world has some stories featuring women like Eileen.

I loved this book and how Bennett continues to develop the world and his rich delightful characters. I am impressed by the wide variety of women in these stories in all sorts of roles that are often just men by default.

I love the premise of this book and I also liked reading it. I hit a few bored patches, and a lot of things about the end made me very sad. I think it's a book that will keep making me think about it.

Ah, what a wonderful book. I was so excited by the premise and then delighted when it all unfolded in a chapter, leaving hundreds of pages to discover more of the world and the story. Novik constantly subverted my expectations, while creating a magical and high stakes adventure.

Okay finally went back and finished the combat section of this book. I didn't read it cover to cover but I read all the general player sections (not so much of the running the game stuff.) I like a lot of the ideas in this system, especially the icons and how that connects the players to the world.
