A page turner, but just so sad. I don't know if I really liked this book. Seeing everything through Jack's eyes maybe made things worse in my opinion. Rather than providing the 'distance' from the awful circumstances of the story that some people appreciate, for me it just made it much more heartbreaking.
The most awful worst book ever. Really good. Everything in it just gutted me. Well told, so deeply felt and resonated. Hard to read and impactful. What a take on a fairy tale. It was an uncommon read, and I definitely feel from the experience of it.
Not quite as delightful as I remember finding Simon, but this is a sweet funny book with a relatable protagonist and cast. Except that I do kind of struggle to identify with high schoolers now, like I barely remember what my internal world was when I was that age. But I felt for Molly and her internal world was, while a little overly boy drama for my tolerance, also full of thoughts and worries about herself and change that resonated with me. There was the usual sort of big bad feeling conflict sections which I had to power through, but there was a lot of sweetness and the book felt very now and I mostly happily sped through it.
This one started out feeling very filler-y but hit it's stride with a bang. Really revived my interest in seeing what's coming in the big picture, as well as good story stuff with a lot of my favorite characters.
This novella was a thoroughly enjoyable read, with an exciting setting and a protagonist that easily captured my heart. It was fun and made me want to run up a cliff with my cybernetically enhanced legs.
A beautiful urban ghost story. Seanen McGuire is so thoughtful and it shows. I love this conception of ghosts and the cast of characters.
Another Dresden that hits the expected excitements and amps up the intrigue in the larger conflicts. Very excited to start Changes next!
This book started out so fantastically good, I was constantly raving about it less and less tentatively as things got more interesting and intense. But then, as it so often goes, the answers were less satisfying than the unanswered questions had been. I really enjoyed the characters and the premise and so many moments of this book, but ultimately wish it had gone a different direction in that pivotal moment. The narrator of the audiobook, Ray Porter, was quite good and created many distinct voices for the different characters. However, his female character voices were frustratingly high pitched and almost all the same, which often broke me out of the experience of the book. I hadn't really been expecting all that much from this book, honestly I have just wanted to read it because I am constantly drawn to the cover, and hadn't even read anything about the premise, but then after the beginning was so exciting and the sci fi and horror elements (my favorites!) were so well balanced into a deeply intriguing story, it left me really wishing it had ended as well as it began.
Dresden is still pretty intolerable, but the plot was engaging and despite the groans and eye rolls at many of Dresden's comments I was able to enjoy this book.
Hmm yes, very intrigue. I finally got around to reading this issue I picked up right after it came out because who knows where the time went and issue 3 is now a thing. I was immediately hooked by the mystery and can't wait to see where this goes.
