This book was a perfect story to read aloud to my son.
It raised lots of great discussion topics and it helped my son and I appreciate how hard it can be for trans-kids to come out and encouraged us to think about ways we can make our friends know that they can be themselves with us and that we will accept them for who they really are.

Dark Adventure Radio Theatre: The Rats in the Walls

This was a great production with brilliant voice acting and I would really like to be able to give it a 5 star review but the fact that they chose not to change the cat's name seriously affected my ability to enjoy it as much as I otherwise would have.
The cat is named "N*man" and most people change this to "my cat", "the cat", the black cat", or "Black Tom" but HPLHS chose to use the cat's extremely racist and offensive name instead.
I love Lovecraft's works and I'm usually a purist but the man was a massive racist and when it comes to racial slurs there really is no reason to maintain that level of accuracy to the original text. I heard the n-word spoken more times by the narrator than I have heard in 37 years of life (despite growing up around some pretty racist people).
I really wish the HPLHS had been more progressive, or just less racist, in their choices.

Written from an anthropologic view, it spends a lot of time dealing with semantics and defining definitions but is overall full of lots of interesting information.
Unfortunately, the writing is very dry.

I found the narration extremely off-putting. It felt like the author was more interested in blowing smoke up his own behind than focusing on his observations. Not to mention that the science is questionable, with much exaggeration and anthropomorphism.
I do appreciate the reception and good that this book did in regards to the publics understanding of wolves, but I can't say I would recommend this book.

WARNING: This story contains racist terms and descriptions of American First Nations people.
The way Stoker describes the mother cat's grief and fury is very effective. However, I felt the end greatly took away from the overall enjoyment of the story.
I'm fairly certain Stoker just hated animals in general.

An atmospheric story that humbles humankind in a most terrifying way - by showing us how powerless we really are against Nature.

Meh. It's not his best work. It could have been a really good story, but too much fluff (i.e., love story), overt religious elements, and lots of unexplained points made it fairly mediocre.
I found this to be a great book for introducing children to the Greek Gods. It has a very conversational tone and lots of humour, which makes the tales more appealing to a younger audience.
I also like the way it handled a lot of the more problematic elements in a child-friendly way.

informative
Written for the general public in a conversational way with easy to understand comparisons and explanations and a good side of humour.
I highly recommend the audiobook version narrated by Holter Graham.

I'm not sure if something was lost in translation or if the author's writing style was not for me but I found this to be a difficult book to read, and not just because of the content.
I found a lot of the information to be eye-opening, and I now plan to do my own independent research into how animals are treated in my own country and what alternative options are currently available, i.e., humane farming practices.
I found the overall tone of the book to be somewhat biased, as you would expect, and I feel there were some clear gaps and silences used to help push the author's personal agenda.
There was also a weird religious tone throughout, which I didn't really get.
Overall, I found this book to be a good springboard for drawing my attention to things I otherwise wouldn't have noticed or considered and now intend to look into more but I don't feel the book itself was that great.
