A collection of various myths about sun, sky, moon, thunder, lightning. They are kind of smashed together and don't flow well. The illustrations are nice but colorless. I like that she tells you where the myths are from.
The first book had such a good cliffhanger that I had to read this one, but it was handled poorly. Despite the fact that her mother lied to her for her entire life and her boyfriend has done nothing to prove untrustworthy, Emma still believes him capable of betrayal -- just as Galen himself does later to his closest friend. They may be terrible people but I guess they're perfect for each other. Unfortunately, the yarn that Nalia weaves is a stupid one, and I had really hoped for a better backstory there. This book was more interesting than the first as it delves into the politics of the mermaid world and you finally see the power of Triton.

of Rachel's death and it's not okay and she was the only character worth a good goddamn in this entire book.
Pip Bartlett lives in a world with magical animals -- including everything that you've heard of, like Unicorns, and a lot of things that you haven't, like Miniature Silky Griffins and Fuzzles. Fortunately, or unfortunately, depending on your point of view, Pip can understand magical creatures and uses her abilities to cause some messes and fix a few others. This absolutely magical middle grade novel had me actually grinning in delight. It was zany and fun and reminded me of why I loved reading so much as a kid and why I still read now.
A cute introduction to Galen's land-lubbing life and his relationship with Rachel.
This was just dumb. In the books you keep hearing that Grom and Nalia loved each other so much, but in this short story they meet once as children and hate each other, and don't see each other again until they're adults and Grom likes her because she is pretty. I find it impossible to believe that in a world with only two kingdoms, the young prince and princess who are promised to each other haven't seen each other since they were children, especially if their parents are such close friends.
The scene where Nalia ends up in the mine was well written, but overall it was way too contradictory with the novels.

This was the funniest and darkest book I have read in a long time and I cannot recommend it highly enough. Lex is a delinquent -- but instead of getting into a book where she redeems herself and overcomes her penchant for punching, you are getting into a book where Lex doesn't get any less sharp and instead finds herself working as a reaper of souls. There is mystery and sarcasm and family and strange alcoholic beverages. It is a delight.
