This had a lot to do in terms of setting up its main character, its world and magic system and its story but it does it all very well. Nate is a great main character and the way he describes what happens to him makes it more horrific. Also Gabby ❤️

Unfortunately I found this to be the worst book in the series, Nate is too disconnected to the war plotline and the fast pacing makes the events feel incredibly disjointed. Gabe and Nate finally get together in this one only for

Gabriel to die in Nathan's arms :(

which is just. kind of unnecessary? I do love the ending however, we love a forest ❤️

You put me on a ship or some type of nautical battle and i'm asleep. Also it was insanely obvious what the plot was and who was going to betray Rin. Also Rin loses her powers for a good chunk of the book so take that as you will. However I loved the character arcs and interactions so so so much and I was dying for more by the end.
