Brit wow! You’re such an amazing writer & storyteller, this book left me stunned. I was honestly triggered so much reading it lol...I had to remind myself that everyone is allowed to choose their own path & that trauma looks different for everyone. My family may ANNOY so much at times, but I could see us fully going down the path that this family goes through. Heartbreaking. This book deals with race, love, colorism, identity, gender identity amongst others. It was very hard to put down. There was always something new & more in depth on the next page. My favorite character had to be Reese...on of the daughters boyfriends. Strong & a survivor. Everyone else was too complicated...rightfully so. I kept getting frustrated with them lol. This story is great because it’s so real and relevant to black culture & this racist society we live in. Also Brit wrote this book so well, we got to deeply know the characters and how they continued to grow from each experience...so the next time I give a book 3.5
Omg! Book 2 of The Brown Sisters, and it gives me the same warm feeling as the first. Dani & Zaf! Dani & Zaf! I found them to be so relatable, and it’s always great when you can identify with characters. Dani is not into romance at all, where Zaf is a secret romantic who loves romance novels. I loved reading about Zaf & all his truths. In a society where we are told men cannot show vulnerability, it was a nice change of pace to see Zaf working out & talking about his issues. This story talks about important issues like anxiety, loss, and insecurity. It was very romantic, hilarious, and beautifully written.
So pleased to say I have read all of JGs books (with the exception of the new one coming out later this month). Her stories are so romantic & playful. I don’t think there’s a character I dislike. Sometimes it’s harder for me to read about people older than myself. Only because I might not be there yet maturity wise & can’t connect with some of the life experiences. Then I remember to use my imagination, and instantly I can imagine life at that age or picture someone I know in that group as well. The affection that Vivian & Malcolm have for each other is heartwarming & genuine. This book was truly lovely :)
I don’t think I’ve read a good YA book in a while. This was exactly what I needed to get me back in the reading groove during everything that’s happening in the world. Elizabeth is a brilliant writer & this story was very similar to some of my own personal experiences as well as my friends. Here are some of my favorite quotes from the book:
•I think you should write about the one that scares you most. Taking risks and making choices in spite of fear—it’s what makes our life story compelling.
•I’m Black on both sides. Although my Puerto Rican side speaks Spanish, and my American side speaks English.
•Trust. Yourself, mainly, but the world, too. There is magic working in your favor.

RAAAATID...that was GREAT! I feel like I was on the wildest roller coaster that could’ve definitely killed me, and I did not want to come off (lol). What a great young adult fantasy! Twins separated at birth never even hearing about one another. Living two separate lives...not totally far apart. Only to share this huge secret amongst the two of them. I honestly picked this book on a whim. I just wanted to read fantasy, but black fantasy...and I’m so grateful I came across this. I kept holding my breath trying to anticipate when the twins would finally meet. First I was like “come on”, but I felt like I was reading two different stories at times & I loved it. This book gave my love, heartbreak, action & adventure. Pleaseee send me part 2 when it’s done Reni. You are a phenomenal woman :)

First of all I just want to say thank you to Courtney Marie (the author) for sending me a free copy of her book. When I tell you that was sooo unexpected!!! Ayo Courtney, how you gonna leave us hanging like that?! Lol...Wtf!!! Messy messy. This was truly a great book. It was interesting from start to finish! Siblings going threw hell growing up, that took over their lives as adults. Wow! Family struggles, death, mental health, fascination, obsession! I think this book touched on a lot of major subjects. Both Amir & Ameena are flawed characters, which I loved. Don’t you hate when the protagonists are goodie goodies? Me too! We get to be with them during their journey of life & self discovery. Bring on the adventure, and this book gave me tons. There were times when I thought I knew what was going to happen & I was wrong. Completely wrong lol. I love being wrong while reading, it just shows me there are still good writers out there who know how to WRITE A FICTIONAL STORY. My favorite. Please read, if you like surprises...you won’t regret it. Courtney I’m gonna need book 2 ASAP :)
Yay! It was so good! This is now my second Sarah Smith book & her writing gives me all the feels. I instantly fell in love with the characters. She writes from such a humble perspective. Shay & Wes randomly met by chance. They started off hot & heavy until one day it all fell apart. I’ll try not to giveaway too much, but this book is about heartbreak & how you can mend a relationship. No matter what that relationship may be. That’s all I’ll say! Lol... I love a good story where the characters make mistakes & we see the healing process. It’s my favorite kind of self love. Thanks again. Please read this lovely story. I can’t wait to read Simmer Down :)
