I, too, want to be a cat. damn

the illustrations are so nice and go so well with the story!! I love. 

 A sweet (hah!) and funny Halloween story. I might even play the game someday.

let's see how many trigger warnings I remember: child death, child abuse, attempted (?) child rape, racism, graphic animal death, teen pregnancy, graphic vomiting, probably other things I can't think of right now

This was a dark book. That's fine. I knew it was going to be a dark book. It was a solid 4 stars for me, up until the last chapter, which kinda ruined the whole thing for me. I couldn't really articulate the disgust and disappointment that came over me at that last chapter, but it just felt like the twist really cheapened the entire book and erased all the development before it.

Uhm?? Excuse me?? Where is the rest of this?? I am completely hooked and I need MORE.

Semi-professional review: I loved the world building, the twists of the plot, the hierarchy of gods and humans, and the tension between the main characters. I would love to see more stories in this world - fantasy/mythological detective stories are kind of my jam.

Truthful review: I am very, very gay for Andy. Like, oh my gods.

Ez a könyv valóban egy osztálykép, nem csak egy románc, hanem a baráti társaságot és az ő problémájukat is megismerjük. Igazából kellemesen csalódtam ebben a könyvben. Bár volt benne több nehéz téma, úgy éreztem, hogy jól vannak kezelve. Egy résznél egymás után egy lány és egy fiú is (megkísérelt) szexuális erőszakon esik át, és bár a bulin jelenlévő fiúk közül többen legyintenek rá, a főszereplő nyíltan kimondja, hogy márpedig ez erőszak, ami fiúkkal egyaránt megtörténhet. Bár van egy megjegyzés, amit bifóbiának is lehetne értelmezni, a kontextusban inkább Ákos saját tapasztalataiból adódó félelem, amit Levente nem is hagy annyiban.

Az is tetszett, hogy amikor a főszereplő Levente az interneten olvasgat és a saját identitását próbálja feltárni, említésszerűen megjelenik az aszexualitás, pánszexualitás és demiszexualitás is. Bár angolul már sokkal több könyv jelent meg ilyen témában, Magyarországon még mindig eléggé szűk a választék, szóval örülök, hogy egy ilyen könyvnek is sikerült megjelennie, és remélem hogy több hasonló fogja követni.

Igazából két negatív megjegyzésem van: az egyik, hogy a sok konfliktus mellett úgy érzem, maga a románc kicsit eltörpült, a másik pedig, hogy azért a könyvbe belefért a srác aki az internalizált homofóbia miatt erőszakos bunkó/bully, ami kicsit azt a "nemár" reakciót váltotta ki belőlem.

Összességében négyest adnék a könyvnek. 

I read the original version of this years ago, which received some criticism for how the trans child in it was portrayed. This is my first time reading the updated version, and while I don't remember exactly what the original was like, I didn't notice those problems in this version. It's now really a simple but cute story about acceptance, with an aroace protagonist, a lesbian couple, trans characters, and a DRAGON.

I'm here for more books (especially fantasy) with trans guy main characters. Also, Julian is honestly one of the best LIs I've met. Yadriel and him are both amazing and I love them. I also loved Julian being aggressively supportive of trans people even before he met Yadriel. I loved all of Julian's friends, and I loved the exploration of the "bad kids", who were only labelled bad because they were screwed over by the system. Overall, I loved this. I'm always here for ghosts and spirits.

Warnings: Some of Yadriel's not-very-supportive interactions with his family hit a little hard, so warning for trans readers, I guess. There are a couple of instances of misgendering, and at one point Yadriel's family member uses his deadname, but it's never written down.

INCOHERENT SCREAMING!! There were /at least/ two things in this book that I'd been hoping for but never thought I would get because they were too good to be true. So that's what I have to say about it.

This is going in my top 3 October Daye books with An Artificial Night and Unkindest Tide.
