I must say I'm partial to the Librarian. OOk!
Per usual, I have to be at full mental capacity when reading Pratchett, as he'll go off on a pretty long tangent just to make a joke, or a kooky situation even kookier. I'll laugh out loud often when reading Pratchett, but he does run-on a bit and often I can't follow. It's okay, I still love Discworld and all its crazy characters.

Awww, what a sweet ending to this series. I'm also glad that they made sure to say Shirotani isn't "cured" just taking the right steps to having a more freeing life as a germaphobe. Also, cute ending with the new list he has to make for Kurose :)
It was a little slow going when I started this, but it really picked up after the first 100 pages. I was quickly approaching the end when....
I dunno, the decisions made just didn't gel. Didn't seem to fit. And, while I'm glad they didn't let it get too far, the incest bit made me a tad uncomfortable. *Shrugs* It was still a good read and I'm definitely ready for the next in the series!

This was stop and go for me and my reading speed but that ending though...
Well I read the rest of the series? Not anytime soon, I feel like pursuing other dragon series first.

Whoooosh! What an intense and dark book! I guess that's every Daniel Kraus book, which is why I keep reading them. Also for the gross descriptions, which there definitely are in here! All sorts of oozy, squishy, gory descriptions! And torture, which is actually quite intense so, trigger warning for that. Also TW for an abusive friendship. Kraus does a very good job at getting you into the MC's head, and sometimes that's a very scary place to be! Reading his books, like this one, is like reading and holding your breath because if the main character can't get a breather, neither can you, and you read feverishly fast in hopes that everything turns out okay for the MC-and you- in the end.
This was a pretty neat book. I have it on my graphic novel shelf because part of the book follows a comic the MC finds in the attic of the new (run down) house she and her parents move into. It's a great ghost story, your classic haunting with angry ghosts and good ghosts. A mansion in dire need of repair that other occupants were too scared to continue living there. Perfect setting in hot, humid New Orleans and a small, struggling town where everybody knows everybody. Except for the history of the house, and where the original owner disappeared to. Or who the famous person who died there was. A great read for younger teens and up, it has some great themes of feminism, comic censorship and publication, step-families, gentrification, and POC living in struggling neighborhoods still recovering from Hurricane Katrina. It really is a unique spin on a classic haunted house!
Wow! What a fun story! The sci-fi, AU Cairo in this was such a fun setting! Boilerplate automatons, dirigibles, trams that run on electric and magic, djins. This was a very creative story with a mix of magic and science fiction. All the while the story had a classic feel to it with an agent and his newbie partner investigating a mystery at the Cairo Tram station. But they are agents of a Magic, Alchemy and Enchantments Ministry and the mystery they're attempting to solve is that of a tram car possessed with a mysterious entity that is proving to be quite dangerous!
I guess out of all the Joe Hill books I've read so far, this one didn't have the same creativity as the the others. For as thick as it is, I read it quickly, so it's a page turner for sure! And I really loved the characters Nick and Renee. But I think the book title is named after the most forgettable of the characters. Okay, maybe not forgettable, but I feel like John was just... bland.
Either way, that didn't stop this from being quite the post-semi-apocalyptic adventure and a fun read. What it lacked in some weak characters, it made up for with a fun to read story.

Thanks to a friend I'm able to re-read this series that I started but never finished a long long time ago! I guess I'm on a Joe Hill marathon after just finishing The Fireman.
The illustrations in this are colorful and great, but very different to what I'm used to. I'm strangely reminded of Archie characters with their freckles and upturned noses and chubby cheeks, but this ain't no Archie comic! That's for sure. Makes for an eerie dissonance to have these cartoon-y characters among such dark and bloody environments.
