shidoburrito's Reviews (1.54k)
I won't be distracted by your pretty thunder gods and shinki dragons! I demand more Yato!
When you read the reviews, and you keep seeing the word "sad", know that they are not exaggerating, this book is sad. Well, it's more like, the sad stuff has already happened to our poor main character, Jessie, and we begin the book as bewildered and lonely as she is. Mom is dead, Dad has quickly moved on and married a rich woman who also recently lost her husband (they met on a bereavement site), Dad spends more time with new wife than with lonely daughter, making them both leave their established lives and friends in Chicago, to live in the material world that is L.A. So we start off with everything sucking.
But that's fine, because things can only get better for Jessie, right? Or just stay at the same low level she's currently at.
And so we watch Jessie struggle to make some sort of sense of her new life on (basically) her own. Luckily (?) there's a weird anonymous person who keeps messaging her with tips on how to survive the war zone that is her new high school. By following SomebodyNobody's suggestions and encouragement, she is able to make a friend, and even catch the eye of some of the fellas. Are any of them the mysterious SN? Who do YOU hope she ends up with?
I'm not usually one for teen romances, but the ending of this had be ravenously reading to find out who SN is and if she ends up with the guy I liked.

I know I read this. I SWEAR I did! There were like, Native Americans I think? An island where another sangue had been rescued and was being hidden? Stupid humans doing stupid things to paranormal beasts and then getting all offended when they were brutally killed. You know, the usual for these books. I think? This review, coming at you live, a year after I read this book and the fifth one has just come out and I needed to refresh my memory only to find I never wrote a review. Come on Past Angie! Get it together!
Okay Angie, you're writing a review for this book that you definitely read! Now remember these things when the next book comes out next year and you're all like, "I don't remember a THING that happened!" Here's what happened:
-Merri Lee is a human known as the exploding fluff ball.
-Hope is the cassandra sangue that was rescued and is living at the other town by Ferryman's Landing.
-This book was all about the awful man Jimmy, aka Cyrus and his awful kids and wife Sandee, Christopher and Frances (Fanny). Fanny is friends with Lizzy who is Montgomery's child.
-Twyla is the grandma (Monty's mom)
-Tess is the one with the color-changing hair and can kill people by taking their life force
-Jimmy got what was coming to him and it was satisfying. The Elders, who made all this much more difficult than it should have been, were at least brutal in their justice.
Spoiler
-Your cops are Burke, Kowalski and Montgomery. Montogmery is also CJ and his sister is Sierra.-Merri Lee is a human known as the exploding fluff ball.

Oooooh, a lot of backstory and a really sad explanation as to why Shirotani is a germaphobe. Awww, poor guy!
