Tell Me Three Things
by Julie Buxbaum
When you read the reviews, and you keep seeing the word "sad", know that they are not exaggerating, this book is sad. Well, it's more like, the sad stuff has already happened to our poor main character, Jessie, and we begin the book as bewildered and lonely as she is. Mom is dead, Dad has quickly moved on and married a rich woman who also recently lost her husband (they met on a bereavement site), Dad spends more time with new wife than with lonely daughter, making them both leave their established lives and friends in Chicago, to live in the material world that is L.A. So we start off with everything sucking.
But that's fine, because things can only get better for Jessie, right? Or just stay at the same low level she's currently at.
And so we watch Jessie struggle to make some sort of sense of her new life on (basically) her own. Luckily (?) there's a weird anonymous person who keeps messaging her with tips on how to survive the war zone that is her new high school. By following SomebodyNobody's suggestions and encouragement, she is able to make a friend, and even catch the eye of some of the fellas. Are any of them the mysterious SN? Who do YOU hope she ends up with?
I'm not usually one for teen romances, but the ending of this had be ravenously reading to find out who SN is and if she ends up with the guy I liked.
