This is a polarizing book it immediately left me very confused but unsettled. Once I realized what happened, it cemented that this was really enjoyable for me.
It seemed slightly over philosophical for much of the book but basically the characters didn't seem like someone I would enjoy talking to but otherwise great!
The suspense builds well, starting with the normal anxiety of next steps in a relationship and building to genuine horror.

I see why this was a polarizing book (even for big fans of Sager) but it was right up my alley. I am NOT a fan of the unreliable narrator trope but it worked so well in this story. It pays homage to the movies without doing so in such a meta, heavy-handed way and it hands out plot twists in true Sager fashion. This book definitely is not for everyone but I really enjoyed it!
Pros:
- character growth
- journey of self-forgiveness
- fun movie references that work
- good psych thrills

Cons:
- drags a bit in the middle (the psych thriller portion goes on for a while)
- over explanation of the loose ends which seemed a little unnecessary when you get to the final ending
