This book unfortunately was not a good experience for me. I DNFed a little over halfway through. While I think this book has a deep basis that I could have loved, it turned more into an internal pull of the MC between her religion and science. A lot of philosophy and a little plot. The background story of addiction and depression in her family as well as the cultural struggles of immigrant parents falls to the side as she continues to cycle through being a religious scientist. Great idea but the execution wasn’t for me. If those topics interest you, I definitely think it’s worth the try.
Graphic: Mental illness
Moderate: Addiction, Animal death
Minor: Abortion, Pregnancy

This book falls into a sweet spot between horror and YA romance? The horror scenes and the kills are actually well described and interesting. Where the book struggles a bit is being so caught up in the romance, that it doesn't consistently build tension/suspense that creates scares or the actual horror. It is a pretty fast paced read and the kills are evenly paced through the book so that makes up for the lack of suspense building for me, but I know that might be an issue for someone that enjoys traditional slashers. This was my first read by this author (who I believe is known for YA romance) so it makes sense that she leans on romance even in a horror.

Overall I liked this book but unfortunately the main romance/characters are the most boring ones in the book! The supporting characters are great and they have such interesting stories that I wish we read more about them and less about the main charcters. The main romance was just really blah but side stories of the man who falls too fast and the man with a classic unrequited love were both so good.
One of the best parts is the setting on The Plaza and Eloise (and the writer Kay Thompson) being vital to the story. It brought on all the nostalgia for the holiday season.
