This was a really great kid-sized biography of Mae Jemison, and a reminder that you can hold onto those dreams that are bigger than what others think you are capable of.

This was awesome! The artwork is so cool (especially the symbolic elements), and aside from Henry Box Brown, I'd never heard any of these stories before! A great resource for anyone looking for a more visual way to learn Black history.

This is AMAZING. A glimpse into the history of Indianapolis by way of Oscar Robertson and the incredible Crispus Attucks High School basketball teams of the 1950s. Hoose starts us out with the Great Migration bringing Black folks north, and leads into how Crispus Attucks High School was founded, and then their struggles in getting a team established and allowed to compete. The result of all of these points of history woven together is a riveting narrative of the team and its place in making history in Indiana.

If you love over-the-top characters, rich people problems, and wickedly funny writing, this is definitely the one for you!

A kids story about the Great Migration inspired my Isabel Wilkerson's The Warmth of Other Suns. A great way to introduce this topic to children, and read the author's note at the end for context if you're not familiar with it!

This was a really cute collection of poems from a dual perspective and a great read-aloud for younger kids to teach them about race and how people are different, or a solo read for a early/middle grade reader (it's quite wordy).
