Man am I disappointed 😔 I usually say I wish books were longer but I really wish this one had been 100 pages shorter. I really liked the concept and the first 30% I was completely invested. It then starts to drag and what feels like a really great set up and pace then turns into a bunch of different perspectives and background that I felt didn’t add anything. I then hit 70% and I was ready to be done with it!

I think a big flaw is that it attempts to add too many characters and their sides when in reality it should have been a max of 4 characters with 2 main people that we really actually care to read about. I will say there were a few scenes that made me a little uncomfortable so that was nice but overall the pace takes away from any real suspense or horror for me.

3.5/5

I had so much fun with this story! I really liked how it started, really straight to the point with the reader learning more about the characters and their relationship as the story continues. I liked that it takes place in a knock off Ikea but that it doesn’t spend pages building the world up. The reader knows just enough of what’s going on to carry the story.

My only complaint being that I wish it was another 50 or 100 pages longer. I would have loved to see more of a build up to the end and more exploration that lead to a greater connection with the characters and their dynamic. The author has a really fun and accessible writing style that time really flies reading this.

Lives up to the title! I could not put this down and luckily it was a short read but wow did it pack a punch! I’m still not completely sure what I read and more specifically that ending 😮‍💨 but it really did read like a fever dream. So much of “wait what?” went through my head.

This is definitely a book I want to revisit and I cannot wait to pick up what else this author has written.

This was so fun! The story was interesting and developed at a really good pace. Nothing felt rushed but also nothing felt like it was dragging. The characters all really added to the atmosphere and had their place and it never felt like it was one too many characters. I wouldn’t say this was super scary, but I did feel moments of unease where I had to shake myself off and continue reading.

I really liked that I ended the book with a few questions but not a book of them. I think it did a really great job of wrapping up the story with a little bit of “what else is there?” vibe. I really cannot wait to see what else this author has to offer.

A really interesting premise that falls flat. Others have mentioned this, but it really does do a lot more of telling than showing and it leads to more bland story than it should be. I also wish it had expanded more on Aesthetica being that it’s the name of the book.

Despite the main character talking a lot about her flaws and thoughts, I still felt like didn’t know her by the end. Thus I never really cared. I think there were strong ideas and concepts that just should have been reworked. Feels almost like a first edit of the story.

Really disappointing. I thought this would be a much different book but so much of it just felt like the same concept being told over and over again. I like the idea of but sometimes I found myself asking what was really mortifying about some of the stories? Just fell really flat and I had to push myself to finish. Maybe it should have stayed a performance piece instead of being put into this book format 🤷🏽‍♀️

Wow! After what feel like a never ending stream of disappointing books this was another great read! I loved the writing and the disjointedness of it all. I haven’t felt the need to stay up to finish a book in forever and I stayed up just to finish this tonight. I kept needing to know how and why with every chapter. I loved the build up to it all and the way characters are shown through the eyes of a very self aware main character.

I was going to rate this 4.5 stars but as I was writing out my reasoning I had to pause and think. I originally wasn’t the happiest with the ending but after some thought I don’t think it could have ended better. I had to endings I had wanted to happen and I would have been happy with either so I am more than satisfied with this story. Just wow … I feel like I’ll be thinking about this book for a while.

I could not put this down! I did think it was going to be more about different cases and less personal but I ended up just really enjoying her story. The writing was captivating while also being straight forward. Knowing her background and struggles did add a different perspective to all the death she faced everyday for over 20 years. There were moments where I teared up and the ending was great. Makes me want to read more nonfiction!

Starts off really start with a really fun, absurd story that doesn’t have to explain its world, you’re just along for the ride. And then it falls off really quick. The stories start to lose any charm created by the first, and they also start to feel slightly repetitive not even halfway through the book.

Really feels as if the stories should have been worked on longer, more refined because overall it just felt very messy.
