I really need to stop listening to people on tiktok. 

This story was so incredibly boring. The characters are boring, their “weirdness” is boring, and at no point was the writing actually good. Felt so … middle school hahahaha. 

If this was supposed to be satirical in any way then the author needs to take a couple writing classes. Let me be clear, I’m not against gore or gross shit, I’m against bad writing.

The first 40% of this book was really fun and despite hating every single character, I wanted to keep reading. But I felt it very quickly starts to drag and lowkey feels like the author had to meet a word count. 

The plot was simple enough until it felt like a complete mess with too many moving parts involving side characters with no real purpose. Had it been kept more simple I feel that the writing style (breaking the fourth wall) would have been better appreciated. Just ended up feeling a little too pretentious and full of itself in an attempt to really one up the reader. 

Anyway, I will definitely be watching the HBO adaptation and I think I will give this author another chance but overall just felt somewhat disappointing. Too cheeky for its own good. 

I mean do people really email this much?

Anyway I had so much with this book. I love the format and I loved that even until the end I was second guessing who I thought it really was. I also really enjoyed that I could picture every character perfectly and at times I didn’t forget I was reading emails instead of a traditional book.

Rereading this for the first time since I first read it as a preteen. 

I think had this been my first time reading this I might have given it a slightly lower rating. However, it was really fun having the plot come back to me as I read it and getting to remember how I reacted the first time around. I also think it was funny having the same reactions to certain scenes as I did when I was a kid. 

I can’t deny the influence and impact this book had but the flaws have become more noticeable to me. I want to finish rereading the series and then pick up the prequel. I am excited to see how just how much of those stories I remember and if they hold up better than this one. 

I feel like I have been in such a weird reading slump that books I think I would normally enjoy seem extra dull and books that are okay stand out way more to me. 

This book, although kind of average, really stood out to me and I couldn’t put it down. I had so much and I actually really enjoyed a lot of these characters, it felt like I was watching a mid 2000s to very early 2010s thriller movie. Although the ending was kinda of :/ the overall feeling of joy I got while reading this is something I’ve truly missed so I am overlooking some minor questionable plot decisions. 

I will be looking forward to whatever these authors write next and I am once again excited for my next read thank god!

I was extremely underwhelmed throughout this whole book. I wish it had done a better job of building suspense. There was a very good part around the 86-89% part but overall meh didn’t feel like horror really.

This was such an interesting premise I immediately sat down and read it but wow does it disappoint. I think the execution comes across disorganized and just a tad bit weird. Maybe if she hadn’t been writing to some lawyer but instead a collection of journal entries that better showed the progression of how these characters really changed. Also as many of have said … that ending … very much “and then they woke up” feeling. 

I most definitely did not understand a lot of this book and yet .... I loved it so much 😭

I am only giving it a 4/5 because I know there is so much I missed that I want to reread and try to dive deeper into. But oh wow reading this book put in such a weird mood and every time I sat down to read it felt like time stopped. I have been in such a horrible reading slump this was the perfect amount of challenging I needed to get me back in the groove.
