Okay I feel like my love of this series comes from a very specific thing: the books are exactly as long as they need to be. I know that's a weird thing to notice but it's true. Everything that needs to be included...is included.
Also, we need to talk about this ending because the whole last 1/3 just sent me spinning! I just kept scream cheering! I can't wait to read the next book.

Holy crap the whiplash of this book hurts!
I was already having a day where I cried at everything and then the last 1/4 of this happened and I just melted into a puddle at the betrayal. I'm having a hard time waiting until book 3 so I can't imagine how people are surviving if they read this book right when it came out!
Why do I let authors hurt me with their star-crossed lovers romance?! Also, there's kinda time and space travel which I am ABSOLUTE TRASH FOR. But also the ending betrayal...oph that hurt

Okay so I don't honestly think I've ever read a horror before. I also avoid horror films like a millennial dodging a student loan officer. I legitimately refused to go outside when the It remake movie came out. Okay. I HATE HORROR STUFF...AND CLOWNS...also, the world in 2019 is messed up enough for my taste.
That being said...I loved this book! My favourite character is probably Marion. I loved the mystery and the hidden clan and monster. The LGBTQ+ rep was also fantastic! And...wait for the shocker...I loved the romances. It's been a very weird day.

I love this series so much. The world and magic is so whimsical. The politicians don't make things easy for Sofia so you can't help but root for her. I am annoyed already that I don't understand the Black Swan mystery.
I received an ARC of this title at a work conference.
TRIGGER WARNING! THERE IS EMOTIONAL AND PHYSICAL ABUSE IN THE FIRST 100 PAGES! While it is by no means extremely detailed, graphic or gruesome, it WAS difficult for me to read without getting sick (and i have no experience with emotional or physical abuse).
Basic run down: 2 girls from very different backgrounds runaway from their dangerous homes and go on a road trip hoping to find one of their mother's. The girls support and love each other through thick and thin. They're hella smart and don't put up with crap once they hit the road.
So I am not generally someone who enjoys contemporaries as a whole but oh my goodness! I whipped through this book in a few hours.
The characters are FANTASTIC! While they both come from VERY different economic backgrounds, they see each others struggles as similar and help support each other. They're so set up to fail by their families and the world...so you kinda can't help but root for them despite the fact that they commit crimes. The girls are so smart and resilient. This whole book is about them supporting each other to get themselves out of their dangerous home lives and into the world where they can make a life of their choosing. I got attached to both of the girls while none of the background cast are really fleshed out which also made me feel more sympathetic and supportive of the main characters (again, despite them committing crimes).

It's like Narnia...but drama club edition.
I adored the graphics and vibrant colours in here. The layout and text bubbles were really well organized. Solid punny title (I'm a fan of dad jokes). I'll definitely have to pick up the next volume.

With each book I read in this series...I get angrier and angrier about the cover changes.
I love this cast. Period. They're diverse, all having steadily growing individual stories, and a great overarching story together. I am very VERY curious to see where all the romances from this book go cause like...BOY
Also, the very last scene made me shriek scream. I need to read book 3 ASAP.

Okay, I'm kinda happy I got peer pressured into reading this one. I just didn't get the hype around An Enchantment of Ravens so I was very hesitant but this is much more my speed. I liked all the characters and the romance. Lots of reveals at the end. Also love books about books and books with librarians.
I don't know what in the HELL happened but I sat down to read a couple pages of the book and then four hours had passed and I read it cover to cover. I like blacked out but didn't. I remember reading it all...but I'm so confused as to what happened...what drew me in? I'm SO CONFUSED! I don't know how to review it. I loved it but I'm sort of at a loss for words. Maybe it's the whole "everyone is an unreliable narrator/character" or maybe it's the weird ass concept of having to relive the same 11 hours over and over again with people you aren't on super good terms with or maybe it's the murder mystery? I DON'T KNOW AND IT'S BOTHERING ME!
Probably my least favourite of the trilogy and there were just a lot of parts that were difficult to read about everything Bitterblue's dad did. This series strength is its main characters though. Fire has got to be my absolute FAV but Bitterblue has those same traits that I loved...plus the endings of each 3 books are just so refreshing.
