Whoa, I liked this one WAY more than The Cruel Prince! The ending was a TWIST! Lots of lying and backstabbing which I'm trash for.
Holy CRAP this book was fan!tas!tic!
The pace is just non-stop and it brings up some interesting questions we're arguing about today when it comes to reproductive rights and how we treat the Earth. Eve and Bram were so enjoyable as POVs to read from. SO ENJOYABLE. Eve isn't stupidly dense and timid from being sheltered. Awesome. Definitely going to pick up book two when it comes out

Ugggggggggh okay so I thought this was a standalone but apparently not.
The cover is GORGEOUS
The mc isn't a stupid damsel until the very end
The plot is incredibly predictable
The ending was so damn unsatisfying even with a sequel to come
The first romance was better than the second #facts
I'll probably read the sequel if my library gets a copy of it

Cool. I'm not gonna sleep tonight. All I'll see is a shadow in the corner of my room on a rocking chair! The audiobook gave me the eeby geebies with the devil whispering and stuff. I read my first HORROR! I read Sawkill but it was more of a paranormal mystery. This was a HORROR and I liked it!
3.5/5
This was a weird but really enjoyable read. I expected more horror elements based on the cover and vibe of the summary but it was more of a paranormal mystery. I enjoyed all the characters. They were all developed enough for me to differentiate them and their stories. The cult rebels is always a fun element to use though I did think their entire story was pretty predictable. Generally, I found this to be a very strong debut work that would be an excellent October read and I will definitely read the sequel.

*groans* I thought we'd have some sort of suspect but the end of this book! Come on! Lots of questions and suspects and mystery and suspense! Really REALLY need book two!

Honestly, this book is just so good! If you like murder mysteries, puzzle/games being used, a lot of "who done it" in your plot, and a very intelligent main female character...this is an excellent book for you. I loved the use of the multiple timelines and riddles especially. I still don't know how this series is going to end and I LOVE THAT

oh my goodness inner turmoil and fair warning that this is def spoiler review!
Okay! The goods: I liked the mystery, geography, most of the cast, the settings, and the writing as a while but I don't know if they out way the weird and problematic romance...
The bad/the romance: first off, it's kinda incestuous. While they may not be BIOLOGICALLY siblings...they are raised from a relatively young age as such. It's just cringe and weird but then it ramps the hell up to problematic in the last 1/4 with the dude CONSTANTLY pressuring the girl and ignoring her protests and then the god awful use of the "I was with all those girls to get you out of my mind." I threw the book and paced the room for several minutes trying to decide if I wanted to finish the book...which I did out of pure hate/spite. Then the main female character started feeling GUILTY that she didn't want to have sex with her step brother and inner monologued oh no! what if he doesn't think I love him anymore LIKE WHY?! FUCKING WHY?! WHO--WHY?! WHY DID YOU RUIN THIS BOOK WITH THAT SHIT?!

Oh I loved this! It's like The Mummy set in Mexico with a centuries old tiff between brothers!
I loved the main character. I cannot HANDLE it when there's historical fictions with sassy clap-backing women. I just can't! Her family drama could've been a little bit more included since after she left home, it focused on just ONE family members...but really, they were all douchecanoes to her. The romance is very sweet.

I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT THE FUCK I JUST READ BUT I READ IT AND I LOVED IT AND I NEED TO RE-READ IT TO UNDERSTAND IT.
Also, I'm curious if the author was dared to "write a book with as many genres used as possible" cause I legit can think of no other way/reason for this to exist.
Art theft, spies, rich people, dimension travel and dinosaurs. I'll let you try to connect those dots.

Okay I definitely need to reread this. My brain kept checking out.
Honestly, I don't think the plot was particularly unique. It's definitely been written before. It's the setting and characters which were really the strength. It was a pretty enjoyable standalone that I didn't think was too ambitious but also too surface.
More to come when I reread.
