This book is very basic and honestly nothing new in the world of YA fantasy.

The main female is just so mundane and forgetful. Just like the Queen to be. there seemed to be just an overall lack of character development and relationship building. The author told you all about how female student is attracted to (7+ year older teacher) but didn't show you.

Overall pretty predictable and nothing special but I've definitely read worse YA fantasies.

Wowwwww...this cover did a HORRIBLE job of representing the tone of this book!

I liked all the politics and social status used in here. Not too much romance and not too mushy for a book heavily focused on slavery. I liked it...minus the cover. Why is it so difficult for publishers to give us accurate and visually appealing covers?!

I loved this book. I just want to find an August and go on an adventure with him. I love how the two leads aren't romantic and I hope the second book follows that. Definitely one of my favorites of this year so far and I will absolutely be reading he second book

Awww, poor August 😫😫
I liked the book. I think I enjoyed the first book more but it was still good. I don't totally get what happened with August's sister in the end and I honestly groaned when they kissed (the weird romance was so unnecessary) but I enjoyed it. Oddly enough, think my fav character was Alice...and thank you for not using the "bring back to life" trope at the end!

I loved this book SO much the second time around! I freaking love Delilah and all the jumping and the magic!

oh I'm always ALWAYS ALWAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYS a sucker for magical tournaments/duels/battles! I wanted more Kell and Lilah together though! I have so many feels about the Kell's family rn though.

Finally finished! Enjoyed it but I feel like I enjoyed this one slightly less than book two and I liked book two slightly less than book one. I did enjoy the ending though

I remember why I enjoyed this book! The pun game is strong with this one. There's so many jokes and lots of banter and twists on our slang that are heavily influenced by fairytales. There are so many stories referenced in here!

It reminds me of Shrek. It's definitely YA but on the more middle grade end of the spectrum but there are some pretty adult jokes and references. I laughed almost every time Hydra spoke.

It's definitely not a flawlessly written book but it's a light funny corky read.

Really excited to pick up the sequel this week!

This was a fun read! Lots of "Come to the dark side" and Percy Jackson vibes. I'll def pick up the sequel

I love getting to read about Joan of Arc in modern day Paris battling gargoyles and Machiavelli
