...this was messed up.
The ending messed up.

Honestly, this was a pretty refreshingly different. It's very gruesome but different. The characters are all flawed and grey at best but they're honest. I also don't know if it's messed up but I'm here for the romance...But also, like that ending messed me up...

Only draw backs, I found some of it pretty densely written with very little dialogue which made it drag a bit at some points.

I was lucky enough to get eAudio ARC from NetGalley

huh...what a weird book (in a good way). I don't know that I've read many books that are historical but sort of feel contemporary but are also...sci-fi a bit? It gave me a pretty unique feeling from that alone but I also felt like something was just...off for the whole book. I can't quite point to a single thing that was off but just...everything all tied together made me feel uneasy and anxious even before you add in the element of missing people. There are quite a few characters to be thinking of and it definitely distracted me enough from guessing what would happen at the end.

I had a general idea of where this was going since its compared to "Get Out" but that didn't deter from my enjoyment. Wildly impressive debut.

This was cute but there's no real conflict.

I'm so disappointed that this book didn't grab me. I was so excited because of the author, the cover, and the time period as well as all the representation in it but I just couldn't stay interested in the novel. I tried listening in several different settings and adjusting the speed of the audio because I just can't understand not liking it but this was sadly just not for me.

3.5/5

This had a strong start but there was no clear plot until like...almost halfway through which I found incredibly frustrating.

I really liked the start of this. A big cast and immediately thrown into the world with a lot of hurt and confusion that has experienced sudden deaths. I really liked the ending and did not expect everything that happened and who did them. The middle though was a bit rocky. I didn't get dragged into the world as I hoped and it didn't feel like much was actually happening at times which caused my brain to wander off a lot.
