After an unreasonably long reading slump, this was the perfect book to bring me out. The interview-style writing and fast-paced storytelling were incredible. Since it's been more than 10 months since I read the first in the series, I could catch back up with the plot and characters quickly, and I was pulled in just as fast. Without spoilers - I was both pleasantly surprised with the twists and heartbroken. I'm very excited to complete this series soon!

2024: Stunning work as always.
I wanted to wrench my story off its tracks, to strike out toward some better ending, but all I’ve done is change my lines. I made myself the witch, and witches have even worse endings than princesses.

2022: I absolutely adore Harrow's writing. This was another case of beautiful storytelling with so much dark humor, wit, and feminism. How she can fit so much in such a small book is unbelievable. I can't wait for the second in the series!
Unless we change them. Unless we grab our narratives by the ear and drag them kicking and screaming toward better endings. Maybe the universe doesn’t naturally bend toward justice either; maybe it’s only the weight of hands and hearts pulling it true, inch by stubborn inch.

2024: I will never shut up about this book - I love it so much. Witty, entertaining, silly at times, but perfectly highlights how, what can seem like, one minor censor, spirals into complete censorship and absurdity.

2022: I found this to be absolutely delightful! From the start it reminded me so much of Animal Farm and I was hooked right away with such a ridiculous concept for a society. I love stories told in epistolary style and this was the perfect way of telling a story like this! Highly recommend for anyone that loves language.
