Silly goofy age-gap romance. Nothing serious - just a fun time.

This had all the trappings for a story I would love but unfortunately fell quite short. While I enjoyed the writing style, I found the main character, Yeva, to be obnoxiously naive. Considering she is supposed to be renowned knight, savior of her Empire, and overall badass, she felt clumsy and unsure of herself at every turn - not to mention the extremely obvious 'mystery' staring her in the face that she didn't figure out until it was quite literally shoved in her face.

Interesting world building despite being a novella but overall a let down.

Our motivation is not the value of the bodies we steal, but in the second life we give them; each acts as a post-mortem Prometheus, bringing fire to mankind.

I've always had a macabre fascination with the history of modern medicine, the truth behind how science has evolved into what we know it to be today; while grisly, the important part the Resurrectionists, or body snatchers, played in the development of science is extremely fascinating and I'm immediately drawn to any book (fiction or non-fiction) about these individuals. I'm very fortunate that The Resurrectionist, not only satisfied my interest in the scientific aspects of that era, but Dunlap also brought weaved in great characters and a rich story between our main character, James, and his companion Nye.

The most minor of issues that I had was that the plot itself didn't really hit 'the important bits' until well after the 75% mark, I would have liked the main conflict to have been longer as well as having a little more resolution in the sub-plot. But really, the story was so well done otherwise that I don't feel that many qualms about the conclusion and had a great time with this book.

Nothing is true. Everything is permitted. We work in the dark to serve the light.

This was a great ending to a phenomenal series in the Assassin's Creed universe. While ending with more of a 'incomplete' conclusion, it really highlighted the best parts of the franchise.

Another great installment - it's really putting me in the mood to replay the games, especially with the mentions of Ratonhnhaké:ton (aka Conner) and Edward Kenway from the modern timeline assassin explaining to Mari the history of the Templar Order and the Assassin Brotherhood.

This was such a great follow up to Volume 1; the story really starts to develop for both of our FMCs. If I were in Lisa's shoes, I would do the same thing -
I would need to keep experiencing the memories of Shao Jun even if there are side effects because I'd be absolutely hooked!

I just adore this series. This installment was less focused on Fukumaru and Kanda's relationship and more on Kanda's progression back into the limelight. I'm excited to see where that storyline goes. The 'mini' chapters that focus on Fukumaru's mischief are adorable as always.

This was a well done scientific overview of the spectrum of sex and the common misconceptions of the binary definitions. While I wouldn't recommend this to someone brand new to the topic/concept of looking outside of the binary, I would recommend this to someone looking for something in the topic that specifically covers the 'science side' rather than culturally.

Always a cozy time and I really enjoyed the mystery in Twilight Falls compared to the last installment. While there isn't a huge through-plot between the books within the series, I do feel like it's a more enjoyable read in chronological order as there are little easter eggs of information dropped here and there.

As always, the mysteries could be considered 'predictable' but as a cozy story, I'm not looking for a complex Whodunit; I like being able to see the connections Vera is making and solve the mystery alongside her.

I'll admit it - this was totally a cover buy; I didn't even realize this was categorized under Horror (which I don't read) until I added to my shelves. I judged a book by it's cover and it totally paid off.

The writing in The Black Hunger is phenomenal; somehow making dry historic-esque text and storytelling vibrant and engaging. Our characters, multiple POVs and timelines, and the connections they had to one another through history was addicting and I couldn't put it down. The story and writing made me feel like a history student digging through archives and traveling the world to dissect an ancient, creepy cult - all within the pages of one book.

I can see the ending being a 'make it or break it' situation for many readers as this is not the book for someone that needs a story to end with a nice bow. I'm very curious to see if a sequel comes from the author in the future because I'm ready to eat that up (pun intended).
