The Flatshare by Beth O’Leary
⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️
I grabbed this one off a clearance rack at a local Wal-Mart as the cover was cute and the synopsis on the back gave me fanfiction #swanqueen vibes! 🦢 👑 It was a short and simple read - but was full of cutesy, feel-good moments! I was pleasantly surprised!
The main character, Tiffy, is a DIY Book Editor who is going through a break up and in desperate need of a place to stay. Enter Leon, a quiet but quirky palliative care nurse who is looking for fast cash and someone to share his flat…and his bed. Though the two have never met, their relationship evolves through a series of Post-It notes that they each begin looking forward to and they form a unique relationship.
Though the story focuses on Leon and Tiffy and their relationship, I love the development that Beth O’Leary gives each of the supporting characters, also. They all play a crucial role in the overall plot of the story and I can’t imagine the book being near as good without them!
If you love a cliche romance, with a few bumps along the way - this is for you!

While it's not often that I purchase my books from a large book retailer, while browsing the shelves one evening the cover art on this book jumped out to me (it has lesbian vibes, for sure) 😬 so I picked it up and read the inside flap. I wasn't convinced, but was intrigued; and when I saw it was 30% off, I figured "what the hell?!" and grabbed myself a copy. FAST FORWARD a few months later - I finally decided to pick this up and give a read - and I was in for a treat! ⏭
Set in the 1940s - what a time to be alive! - a runaway traveling circus 🎪employee, Willowjean "Will" Parker meets Lillian Pentecost, a private investigator 🕵️♀️ in an unusual circumstance that saves Lillian's life and starts Will on the path of a new career! Lillian, who is struggling with health issues is more than happy to take in free-spirited Will and in addition to training her; feeds, houses, and pays her.
The story is written from Will's point of view, many years later as she retells the events of a particularly intriguing case she and Lillian worked on. 🔮 🔪 🦹🏻♀️Follow them through clues, love, tragedy, mystery, and mostly importantly suspense as they finally crack the case that has been puzzling the city.🤔
I am personally a huge fans of mystery/bounty hunter/detective-like stories so I can undoubtedly say that I am VERY glad I picked this book up. It's a fairly easy read that I finished in just a few days and I was actually quite surprised at some of the plot twists that I didn't see coming - I can usually pick them out! There is a second coming out in the Winter that I am HIGHLY anticipating! 😊
I recommend it to anyone who enjoys this genre and is looking for a light and quick read! ❤️

This book was just a random TBR on my Goodreads (I have over 300 😅)and now that I have access to Libby (more on this app to come - if you’re not using it, you should be!) I’ve just been selecting books at random and having a go! I was pleasantly surprised by this book in a way I didn’t expect. 📚
The main character, Eleanor Oliphant is a socially awkward, quirky, and overall just literal human being. She does life “alone” and is completely content that way, as long as her routine stays..well, routine. But then, what has been working is not longer working and Eleanor decides that it’s time to make some changes…perhaps some changes she’s not actually ready for. 🐛➡️🦋
Follow her as she starts to shift, making friends, developing her own personality, and really grows as a person. ⚠️ (TRIGGER WARNING for thoughts of suicide, child abuse, and death.) ⚠️
What I enjoyed most about this book was that despite the rough patches that Eleanor goes through and the horrific events in which she’s endured - she always, ALWAYS gets back up and carries on. I also feel that her initial life of solitude could be understood and related to, especially in this post-pandemic-ish world. 😷
I give this three stars because while I loved the story line and loved the writing (it’s written from Eleanor’s POV and you often get to experience her thoughts firsthand which is rather entertaining); I positively DESPISED the ending and cannot give it more than stars because of that. 🤷🏻♀️
If you’re looking for an easy “in my feels” sort of read, I definitely recommend this book for you! (Also, if you’re interested but are a little worried due to the triggers — message me; I’d be happy to go more into detail to see if this is right for you or not!) ❤️

This was a book that I unknowingly (or at least didn’t remember) put a hold on in my Libby app. But, after it came available and I read the synopsis, I figured, what the hell? 🤷🏻♀️ After finishing it, I feel..indifferent.
Meet Bea, a plus size fashion blogger who has gained some internet fame from promoting body positivity. I like Bea, in fact; I like Bea a lot. I see a lot of myself in her - from being plus-sized, to being afraid of love, to believing the voices inside my head that we know we shouldn’t - they say the worst things about ourselves. 🤫
Bea gets the opportunity to be the main contestant on a show called ‘Main Squeeze’ - much like the Bachelorette. 💍 Enter a lot of men..some who are down right rude to Bea, some who just want to bed her, and some who are genuinely interested in her! One by one they get cut while Bea searches for “the one”. ❤️
This is a love story but inside there is a little bit of self-development, too. We have to love and honor ourselves before we can love someone else. We have to be open and willing to take chances.
Follow Bea’s season as a Main Squeeze as we see her ups and downs, her lovers and enemies, and even a surprise twist season finale! 😉
Overall, I give this book three stars ⭐️ because it was just…OK. Not overly intriguing or interesting, but it didn’t bore me to tears, either. With most romances, I had a pretty good idea of what was going to happen before it did - even with so many men around. 👨🏻🦱🧔🏽🧔🏼♂️👱🏻♂️🧔🏽♀️👨🏿🦲👨🏻👨🏻🦰
I’m not disappointed I’ve read this, but I’m not running out and recommending anyone place it on their TBR, either! 📚

Love and Other Natural Disasters by Misa Sugiura
⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️
This was an audiobook that I downloaded before my drive home from Myrtle Beach as it sounded interesting, but was also the right length that I should have been able to listen to the entire thing on my ride home. 🎧….I did NOT get to listen to it on the ride home and therefore I let it play during the week while I worked. 😊
Meet Nozomi, the main character of this story who along with her brother goes to California to visit her uncle and work at a museum over the summer. ☀️ She meets Willow, who she thinks is positively adorable - but Willow is caught up on her ex, but then; decides they should fake date in order to make her ex-girlfriend jealous! Enter a fake dating catastrophe/teenage rom-com. 💕 Can Nozomi fix everything before she leaves to go home - or will she have taken it too far? 😳
One of the things I loved about this book was it’s representation of an Asian family AND representation of the LGBTQ world, in a lot of depth. From little things like Asian treats they eat, to how they lived/married years ago! What really hit home for me was the struggles that Nozomi faced when dealing with her sexuality and her relationship with her Grandmother. As an elder, she wasn’t accepting of the LGTBQ community, though she claimed to still love her son (Nozomi’s uncle is also gay). Therefore; it really created a troublesome dialogue for Nozomi as she felt she couldn’t be truthful about herself in front of her Grandma. As someone who has come out, and had a grandparent struggle with it, I really felt this on a deep level and was really moved by some of Nozomi’s inner-dialogues - that struggle of wanting to love yourself and be truthful to yourself but also not wanting to hurt someone that means so much to you. I also loved that the author was really able to dial in on that “young love” that we feel as teenagers - where as we can’t imagine EVER loving someone else. 😍
Finally, my reasons for not liking this book - and giving it three stars - are all personal. Overall, I am just not a romance/rom-com kinda girl. 👎🏻 I try them, I have high hopes for them, and I usually end up disappointed. It was cute and sweet, but just wasn’t for me! I’m starting to learn - as I’ve broaden my horizons over the last year or so - that YA books are really hit or miss for me anymore. I either personally love them, or I hate them (but love the story).

The Hunting Party by Lucy Foley
⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️
This read is brought to you by yet another recommendation from Sam,
As with The Guest List, Lucy Foley simply blew me away with this murder/thriller! 😱
A quick synopsis - a group of friends that have known each other since college join together for a trip to the mountains for New Year’s. 🥳 There are some new additions - a new girlfriend and a baby - and some unexpected additions - visitors from Norway - but they all vow to make the best of it and bring in the New Year the only way they know how! 🎉 The trip is full of secrets, love, enemies, hate, jealously, and even..murder? 🤯
This book was super suspenseful in there were even times that reading it before bed was making me a bit anxious! 😳 It is also amazing to me that Lucy Foley has this way of writing about each individual character in a unique way - they all have their own story taking place inside this central story but all those little things add up to be a part of the big picture..it’s really indescribable unless you read it! 📖
While I understand “the build”, my reason for giving this story 4 stars instead of 5 is mostly due to the beginning just being super slow (just like The Guest List) and it takes awhile to be fully involved in what’s happening!
If you were a fan of The Guest List, or you like a good murder/thriller story - I highly recommend adding this to your TBR!

Dial A For Aunties by Jesse Sutanto
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
This was a HIGHLY anticipated read for me!! Like - 15 weeks wait on Libby and I had to talk myself out of purchasing it multiple times anticipated read. When it was FINALLY ready to be borrowed on Libby; I sped read through my other stuff to get to it and actually sent another book back! 😬 🤷🏻♀️
In this comedy you’ll meet Meddy, a wedding photographer that finds herself in a bit of a bind after a blind date set up by her Mother goes horribly wrong! 📷 Follow her through a series of unfortunate and batshit crazy events as one of her most highly anticipated weddings goes to hell in a hand basket. 😜 While everything may seem like it’s falling apart - one thing Meddy can be be sure of is that her family - her Ma and three Aunts - are her ‘ride or die’ and are there to see her through it! 🚗
I was pleasantly surprised as there were many times where this book actually had me “lol”-ing and I’m not just saying, it. Like, literally cracking up. 😂 I loved watching the family dynamics as they fought and argued over whose ideas were better or who was smarter - something that I think EVERY family can relate to!!
The only negative for me with this book - and this seems to be a trend for everything I have been reading lately - is that it was a pretty drawn out series of events but then everything is wrapped up in like two chapters - it’s so fast it sort of makes my head spin! 😵💫
But, if you’re looking for a funny book that’s not like a lot of other things out there - ‘Dial A For Aunties’ is it! Definitely excited for the sequel!

If you know me even remotely, you know that I am Disney-obsessed. 🏰 Like - give me all the Disney - movies, merchandise, and definitely books whether they’re back stories or retellings - I want it all! So, needless to say when I saw this retelling of Peter Pan, I was here for it!! ..until I wasn’t. 😒
Without spoiling the book - this is the most brief synopsis I can give. This is a story about Wendy and Peter Pan (maybe some fan fiction?) and their mission to save the children that are going missing in Wendy’s hometown. And..that’s pretty much it. One million chapters of this. 🙅🏻♀️
Maybe it was because it was an audiobook…but I wanted to give up and return this book almost every time I turned it on to listen. I, however, have this weird thing about finishing every and all books - no matter how bad! And this was…this was a doozy, that’s for sure. 🏁
There were definitely a few surprises that I didn’t expect or didn’t see coming - mostly towards the end. So, that’s the reason for at least giving this two stars. But, beyond that..I just cannot. 🧚♀️
If you happen to come across this and read it, and like it - please message me!I’d love to get your opinion on it. Maybe I just “missed” something!
