While it's not often that I purchase my books from a large book retailer, while browsing the shelves one evening the cover art on this book jumped out to me (it has lesbian vibes, for sure) 😬 so I picked it up and read the inside flap. I wasn't convinced, but was intrigued; and when I saw it was 30% off, I figured "what the hell?!" and grabbed myself a copy. FAST FORWARD a few months later - I finally decided to pick this up and give a read - and I was in for a treat! ⏭
Set in the 1940s - what a time to be alive! - a runaway traveling circus 🎪employee, Willowjean "Will" Parker meets Lillian Pentecost, a private investigator 🕵️♀️ in an unusual circumstance that saves Lillian's life and starts Will on the path of a new career! Lillian, who is struggling with health issues is more than happy to take in free-spirited Will and in addition to training her; feeds, houses, and pays her.
The story is written from Will's point of view, many years later as she retells the events of a particularly intriguing case she and Lillian worked on. 🔮 🔪 🦹🏻♀️Follow them through clues, love, tragedy, mystery, and mostly importantly suspense as they finally crack the case that has been puzzling the city.🤔
I am personally a huge fans of mystery/bounty hunter/detective-like stories so I can undoubtedly say that I am VERY glad I picked this book up. It's a fairly easy read that I finished in just a few days and I was actually quite surprised at some of the plot twists that I didn't see coming - I can usually pick them out! There is a second coming out in the Winter that I am HIGHLY anticipating! 😊
I recommend it to anyone who enjoys this genre and is looking for a light and quick read! ❤️
