I'm so glad I picked this up soon after getting it! But also, why did I wait so long to grab it?
This book was so good. Well written. Had a lot of names for certain people that you need to get straight, but it all flowed well.

Bree is just a badass heroine! She is so smart and she quickly pieces together parts of information she is getting from all sides. Sel is swoony. Nick is nice. I loved her friend Alice and can't wait to see what is coming for her in the next book!

I mean, we get King Arthur and knights of the roundtable legends and power passed down their lines through generations! Rootcraft held first by enslaved African women that pass down through the woman's lines. We get a non-binary character and I just love them.

This book is powerful and packs a punch! I can't wait to get even more character development in book 2 and more answers. I know we've bandit begun to scratch the surface of all Bree is capable of with all her power!

I want to start with a couple of things from the book that really hit me.

"Arthur told me that in order to change the minds of many, you have to first start with the minds of few."

"We are who we are not because of our birthright, but because of what we choose to do in this life."

I love the magical children of this book! My top favorites were Lucy and Talia but I loved them all. They all had things that made them very special. I love how they each worked their way into Linus's heart. I loved Arthur for how good he was with them all and getting to finally know why... Made Arthur all that more special to me!

The children in the village warmed me so much in total opposite of the adults who made me seethe. Just because we don't understand something, doesn't mean it's bad. I'm happy that Linus came to that conclusion after spending the time he did on the island.

This book is just fun of magic and heart and I really enjoyed reading it!

What does it mean to be truly free?
Libertie is a free born Black. She is expected to follow her mother's footsteps into medicine. But she feels, as her mama isn't as dark as her and can pass as white, that she isn't free to make the choice to do it. She goes to college and nearly get through a year.
She makes in haste a man she thinks she could love and can take her away to Haiti and be the free woman she wants to be. But she finds in Haiti that she still is under her husband and still can't make her own choices.

This was a beautiful story about trying to find oneself in the world. I thought that for most of the book Libertie was passive and didn't fight for what she really wanted. She kind of just ran away instead of facing it head on (this shows as she stubbornly doesn't write her mother letters to let her know how she's getting on). She finally found her footing at the end but I wish we could have seen what that then led to.

This was an interesting look into Mark's quest to find the body of Sandy Irvine who was lost on Everest in 1924.

I like that there is a history of stories throughout the book. Often the stories are harrowing. There are so many things that can happen to even a very experienced climber. I enjoyed learning about the many expeditions that people have undertaken to climb this mountain. It also reaffirms my stance on never wanting to do this myself. I am content to read or watch movies about others who do it.

I really appreciated the look at Autism in this book. It showed that Autistic people can have normal, regular lives!

Eve is basically told by her parents that she needs to hold down a job for a year or her trust will be cut off. They are tired of her being flighty and not finishing anything. But they don't really understand her and she doesn't find understand herself..... Until she meets Jacob.

Jacob runs a B&B. Eve tried to get a job and he won't hire her. Then she accidentally bunks him with his car and then he has no choice but to hire her.

Jacob and Eve frustrate each other until they learn how each other's mind work. They enter into a relationship and it's hot

I just love stories about sisters. I have 4 of my own.

Lynn and Jen don't see eye to eye about most things. But when their father dies, Lynn comes home to Chicago. At the reading of his will, there is a surprise. They have a half sister, Courtney, who is 20.

This throws an interesting dynamic into the already fragile relationship Jen and Lynn share. As they both slowly let Courtney in, other secrets and lies make their way to the surface.

I can't help but think how I'd feel to learn I had a half sister, especially as I'm the same age as Lynn in the book. I think I would have felt betrayed but also would want to get to know her.

I really enjoyed this modern look into what is still happening on Native American reservations. (Their history is not just the past, it's also the present)
Daunis is a half white/half Ojibwe 18 year old, who instead of heading to college, stays to help her mother with her dying grandmother.

She meets Jamie and gets pulled into being a CI. There is a meth ring and she's going to help figure out who's doing it.

I loved Daunis. She is strong and smart. I love that she embraces both of her heritages . I love Auntie, she made me laugh! I feel so bad for the outcome is everything and for the betrayal that Daunis must feel. I love learning about her Ojibwe culture.

This was a great book but I have SO MANY QUESTIONS! The only reason I have questions is that I read this book before reading book 1. I think I would have understood a few things better but I can't say it or it might spoil it for someone who hasn't read either one.

I was very surprised when it was revealed who Bram really is..... My jaw dropped. Book 1 has to have clues to that. I thought that Shana had figured it out at the same time as I did but she knew. I can't believe it took her so long to tell Tim. I was actually surprised how nonchalant Tim seemed after she revealed it to him. I was sure she was going to be in big trouble.

This book had very complicated family relationships. A missing boy is taken just so Bram could draw Shana out.
This book was such a fast read and there were a lot of surprises for me. Thanks to Tessa for sending me a copy of her book.
