I'm as disturbed to admit that I loved this as I am to admit that I love Teen Mom. It's not quality writing or revolutionary ideas or intriguing suspense... but its interesting enough, and I intend to read the sequel... besides, apparently its being made into a TV show...

my expectations were very low as I started this book. I don't mind a little junk reading if you know what I mean. its kind of like a trashy TV addiction... but I have to tell you, this book captivated me. it started admittedly slow and none of the characters were particularly interesting, but I suppose in retrospect that's kind of the point. I don't think I've had an infatuation of any sort for the male lead of a book since I was probably in middle school, but like many other reviewers, I have to say that alex was easily my favorite in this book and made this love story one of favorites ever. the writing was particularly good and extremely relatable...anyone who has ever fallen absolutely and completely head over heals for someone will find the descriptions and illustration by Oliver quite brilliantly and astonishingly real. I read matched a few weeks before this (with equally low expectations) and I enjoyed it on a very shallow and amusing level. the stories are quite alike, but in every way that matched irritated me, from character depth and development to writing style and talent, delirium delivered. I will read Oliver's other novels for sure, but I expect that one will match my adoration for this one.

couldn't even finish it. so horrifically disappointing... and I even made if through the twilight series. the difference I suppose is that the twilight series was never remotely good, so as you kept reading and it got progressively worse, there was nothing to do but groan and laugh about it. it was a shame on you if you keep reading scenario. but the difference here is that the hunger games, though thoroughly disturbing, was hauntingly beautiful and exciting and riveting. I only got halfway through it, but katniss became the most worthless and pointless blob of blah that I couldn't bare to keep going. it wouldn't be worth reading the gore of another hunger games for this. how did katniss go from being strong and tough and smart and interesting to just so damn boring? the only remotely interesting detail I was still wanting to know was about the mystery district. but I looked up spoilers for the rest of the series to see if it was worth reading and well let's just say nothing sounded remotely impressive. so, because I don't want to ruin the glory of the original, I'm so done.

if you liked the hunger games, you'll like this post apocalyptic dystopian novel. the writing is admittedly lacking in comparison to the hunger games, but the book is nail bitingly exciting from start to finish. this is the kind of book that gets you annoyed when someone dares interrupt your reading. two thumbs up!
