Listened to the audiobook version on a family road trip and it held everyone’s attention. The book has a lot of characters and a lot going on - we will probably listen to the second book on a future trip

Six word review: fatal flaw = love friends too much

Interesting and even more so since it is based on a true story (and nice audiobook delivery)

100% worth the time - even just for the review of “Top Gun” and “Love Actually”

I love love loved Bridget Jones back in the day, so maybe my expectations were too high… or maybe it is the difference of being a single 20-something while reading that vs a not-20-something (smug married) while reading this.

I found a lot of the characters really selfish and hard to care about, and Yinka’s refusal to be honest with anyone consistently felt over the top to me.

It also felt like as low the middle got (with Yinka acting crazy - although with the family pressure maybe not so crazy), the end wrapped up really fast… one session of therapy and one hard conversation with her mom and suddenly her mom and aunties are not pushy? It seemed a little unrealistic to me.

I really enjoyed this! Joan’s voice was funny in places - I may never look at our robot vacuum again without considering it an offspring :)
I also thought the description of the impending pandemic was interesting as was considering how an immigrant’s family experience is different than mine… even in this century

Read this with my kiddo. I did not think Barney 1 sounded great :). I do think this is well written because the characters were very different voices and I had very different (strong) responses to them

I am glad I listened to this as an audiobook - the story was very moving out loud. Heartbreaking that this is a recent / current situation in Nigeria for women and girls

I thought I didn’t like this book because it felt like it was building to be a horror story (and I don’t like horror)…. But I think it was probably well written to give me that sense of impending doom. Really well written and very distinct characters.
