Yinka, Where is Your Huzband?
by Lizzie Damilola Blackburn
I love love loved Bridget Jones back in the day, so maybe my expectations were too high… or maybe it is the difference of being a single 20-something while reading that vs a not-20-something (smug married) while reading this.
I found a lot of the characters really selfish and hard to care about, and Yinka’s refusal to be honest with anyone consistently felt over the top to me.
It also felt like as low the middle got (with Yinka acting crazy - although with the family pressure maybe not so crazy), the end wrapped up really fast… one session of therapy and one hard conversation with her mom and suddenly her mom and aunties are not pushy? It seemed a little unrealistic to me.
