This book follows the life of one woman from birth into her 30s, from the perspectives of the people around her. Food is its own character, reminiscent of "Like Water for Chocolate".

Alex is a Spanish witch (a bruja) who has to travel to Limbo (Los Lagos) to save her family and accept her powers. Some subtle lgbt characters. Lots of angst and coming of age and self confidence and acceptance.

Obviously it's very different from the novels - it's got a different style, the tone and pacing and dialogue is different , but that's to be expected I think, since it's a play and Rowling didn't write it alone. I liked the first part a lot. Part two had some moments where it felt a bit like HP Fanfiction. Mostly it was just nice to be in that world again. I'm unsure if I want to consider this story canon or not. I think it would look incredible on stage. It felt a bit like Rowling was out of practice with writing some of the original characters, but Scorpius is awesome and witty and I like him a lot. All in all, it's not bad. It feels very nostalgic.

If you loved Eleanor & Park, read this book.

I listened to this one, and I enjoyed it, but I was very surprised when it ended. I expected more story. I wanted more about the babybots and the addiction that caused the inventor to go to jail, more interactions between Mary3 and Gabby, more from the memoirs of the inventor, etc. Not that I think there wasn't enough, I just wanted more. I guess that's a good sign.
