This book is boring and bloated. I find stories that write about the importance of stories are self-aggrandizing. This book is not as special or cool as the author thinks it is.

A unique and intriguing premise that got sidetracked trying to do too much, and ended up a bloated mess.

Bittersweet: Acknowledges the trauma-machine of an entire industry, but people find the resilience and courage to live and love authentically. Equal amounts campy and disturbing, like many classic Sci-fi horrors, and always told from the heart.

An amazing love letter to NY, and a celebration of diversity (that at times was Too Real to read). That the enemy is colonial Whiteness, and gentrification, is peak storytelling. I love that the paranormal elements reclaim Lovecraftian storytelling from Lovecraft, exalting all the voices he once dismissed as Other.

Tackles great themes worth exploring, like systemic racism and the solidarity between race, LGBTQA, and women's civil rights issues. But I found both viewpoint characters to be arrogant or unlikable in different ways. They want the reader's sympathy for having their secrets exposed... even when those secrets include vehicular manslaughter. "The System made me do crime" sounds gross. Les Mis! But gross. Furthermore, the book had some racist descriptions of Mighty Whitey that did not sit well with me: Sea of pale, Caucasian-ville, clones, etc. I don't agree that the solution to Systemic Racism is... more racism. Flawed chars, flawed morals, and a flawed, campy book.

This book might be transphobic? It's definitely misogynistic. Squandered premise. Could have been so much better in another author's hands.

Aptly titled; woefully executed. Squanders the setup, themes, and mystique of the first book in favor of vapid, sensational depictions of violence and abuse. I feel betrayed by the author.

The worst piece of drivel I have ever had the misfortune to get tricked into reading. I don't understand, it came so highly recommended. But this book was just awful, in every way a book can be awful. Do not read.

This book is creative with its fantasy and social commentary. But it is also ruthless, cynical and joyless. It was like The Grapes of Wrath and The Magicians had a baby. Yes, you amass a cast of characters and a plot unfolds (300 pages in :/), but who cares, if the characters are unlikable, the setup is tedious, and the plot is depressing.
