Tackles great themes worth exploring, like systemic racism and the solidarity between race, LGBTQA, and women's civil rights issues. But I found both viewpoint characters to be arrogant or unlikable in different ways. They want the reader's sympathy for having their secrets exposed... even when those secrets include vehicular manslaughter. "The System made me do crime" sounds gross. Les Mis! But gross. Furthermore, the book had some racist descriptions of Mighty Whitey that did not sit well with me: Sea of pale, Caucasian-ville, clones, etc. I don't agree that the solution to Systemic Racism is... more racism. Flawed chars, flawed morals, and a flawed, campy book.
Graphic: Bullying, Racism
Minor: Suicidal thoughts
