This poetry collection is visceral, raw, and at times, incredibly funny. I feel like I'll need to read it a few times to really let it all sink in. I liked the differing formats and returning themes.
I expected better. This is just awful. The characters are supposed to be in their mid 30's, yet they act and speak like teenagers. I didn't find the plot charming or even interesting.
TW for Emetophobia at around the 10% mark

Ok so I read this one first but I hated it.
The characters were dumb and frustrating.
The plot was dry with little at stake. Do not recommend.

This is my favorite of the Harry Potter series. It's a real turning point in the arc. I'll always come back to this one. It's a good HP book to read if you just want to read one. It's fun, scary at times, hilarious, and dead clever.
I really wanted to like this book, but it was so boring.⠀I was so close to DNF it, but I knew it was a highly anticipated release. The Sweeney Sisters is the story of the aftermath of the three Sweeney sisters’ famous father’s death. Well, I didn’t care. I didn’t care about the sisters. They were indistinguishable from each other. I didn’t care about their loss. Their dad seemed like a terrible person. I didn’t care about the sisters’ secrets and discoveries.Slice of life can be meaningful, beautiful ,IF the writing is good. This ain’t it, chief. ⠀

This book was a sweet slice of life of a teenage trans girl. All the insecurities of high school, dating, friends, and Amanda's unique trans experience.
I found the audiobook a bit grating- the southern accent is a little too strong (I'm a southerner myself)

So there were a lot of elements I liked in this book:
Fake dating trope, teenager passionate about causes, talking about mental health, weird baby animal as pet
Unfortunately, this book was pretty meh for me.
Pinky didn’t feel like a “rebel,” just a pouty teenager.
I felt like I didn’t get to know Samir or Pinky other than surface level annoyance.
I was confused about Ms. Kumar (Pinky’s mom) being so apathetic about social causes.
People don’t stop caring about things just because they grow up
If you liked previous books in this world, you’ll probably like this one, but it was just ok for me.

I received a copy of Everything is an Emergency for review, courtesy of Harper Perennial.
This was a quick, one hour read for me. Funny, heartbreaking, and a little too familiar for me as a creative with anxiety. I felt for young Jason dealing with feelings that were too big, and spiraling thoughts. I don't know that this book would be helpful for anyone currently dealing with untreated OCD or anxiety. It is helpful, when you are on the otherside, to know you are not alone. There are some genuinely funny pieces in this book as well.
