I rated this a 4 originally, but I liked it even more on the reread!! The cast of characters Kresley is building is so great—I love the evolution of Lachlain and Emma’s relationship, everything is so heightened and dramatic because they’re freaking immortals!! I forgot how much comic relief Nix provides, Emma as well with her modern speech that confuses Lachlain. And so many of the details are so fun and interesting, like giving the wraiths their hair in exchange for protection, eating electricity, etc. And I love Emma the Unlikely coming into her own and discovering who she is!
I’m really surprised this was a Goodreads Best Romance and has such a high rating. The hero was too much of an asshole for me and basically harasses the heroine until she gives in (I guess it’s supposed to be okay because he apparently KNOWS that she loves him, but UGH). I also get really angry when authors use language like “this is so gay”, “pussy whipped” and “transvestite” for a cheap laugh.
