Oh my goodness what a read. I absolutely enjoyed this book, even though it left me heart broken. A non-fiction work that reads like your favorite fictional thriller. As a lover of history, I knew nothing about this time period or about this subject. I was quickly immersed and sucked in to the story. The lives of these people were extraordinary and what they went through, unbelievable. A must read for everyone!
Summer sizzles in the Orient. The overall feel of this book to me was 'find yourself'. Through huge mistakes, lost loves, jobs, friends and change, find yourself. At times I found the tone sad, judgemental and a bit too much focused on wealth. Most of us aren't wealthy and I hate to break it to you, but I don't need to read about excess wealth. I want to read about people and situations that could occur in my life.
I could relate to Ruthie most of the time. She's older than me and in a different part of her life. But, I could relate to the desperation. The desperation to make things right, to survive through the crap that seemed to be thrown at her this summer. I didn't mind the other characters. I enjoyed Jem and I really enjoyed the emails she wrote to her bff.
Great beach read.

What a treat! A long, drawn out historical treat. You need to love history and have a bit of patience to get through this work, and thankfully I have both! I knew absolutely nothing about Alice Roosevelt prior to reading this book. What a shame! She was a person to have known! I loved learning about her and her family, friends and contemporaries. What a life! Thanks first to read for the galley in exchange for a honest review.
Super cute spring read! Nothing too heavy here. Just a cute love story between Ian and Erin. Love the friend relationships, the side characters are just as fun to read about. Is this a series?? Hmm.
Heartbreakingly beautiful. I wanted more, yet at the same time couldn't handle it. Made me smile and cry. A friendship and love story told so truthfully.
I really enjoyed this book. Full of love, culture, tradition, family, friendship and food. I loved reading about the neighborhood dynamic. I did find myself slipping a bit towards the middle, waiting for the juice of the story. But, I've already recommended it to another friend. Thanks first to read!
I thought it was a pretty good teen romance. I did feel like it was getting very repetitive and I understand that was the point. I do feel like it took Andie a very very long time to figure out how to solve her mystery. High School hasn't changed much since the 1980s. I liked the film references that kept it fun.
