I don't think I've ever DNF'd anything aside from 50 Shades before 25% before, but I just couldn't keep going with this. Gal was my least favorite character in the first book, just intensely unlikeable and this one somehow made him worse. The setting is boring, the characters have been stripped of anything that made them somewhat interesting the first time around, and there is nothing happening to redeem any of it at all. I even tried audio at 2x speed and it still felt like I was being dragging through glass for every line. Gal's inner monologue is so absolutely horrible. Whiny, shady, boring, snotty, boring, angsty, angry, boring, poorly plotting, snide, boring. I'm sure if I could black out and wake up to experience only Wyn's scenes it would be ok. 

This setting had a lot of potential and really like Ettian as an MC. Basically star wars fic, but I am massively intrigued by the implications of possible mechs?? The problem I ran into is Gal is intensely unlikeable so Ettian's blind loyalty to him just isn't sympathetic at all. Otherwise? An enjoyable, although a bit poorly paced, space opera. Book 2 better have mobile suits, that's all I'm sayin
