Official Review From My Blog

Starting off super strong is my first ever truly dark romance. I was influenced to get this book from some of the creators I follow on TikTok and it was the perfect spooky read for me. Masked men have become quite popular on my for you page, and this book scratched that particular itch.

This reverse harem was incredibly dark, and I often felt myself wondering if I was allowed to enjoy some of the scenes as much as I did. If you’re not a fan of ultra possessive, will kill anyone who looks at the fmc the wrong way vibes, this won’t be a hit for you.

Our FMC goes to a Halloween party at a frat house where she is harassed by drunk frat guys, and her high school bullies. Ghostface, Michael Myers, and Freddie Krueger cosplayers sweep her off to a night she’ll never forget.

I just found a new favorite author. This book was so spicy while being sweet and empowering. 100/10

Out of all the books I got during stuff your kindle day, this one so far is my favorite. Our FMC has been so focused on keeping her career and her life together that she’s forgotten how to live. Through the course of this novella she meets three men who open her up to a world of new possibilities.

This why choose reverse harem fulfilled fantasies I hadn’t even realized I had. The scenes on the plane were incredible. The reason the spice hit so well was because of the connection the FMC had to our three men, and how those men catered to her in every aspect of her life. They allowed her to thrive, and nothing is more of a turn on than multiple men who only want their woman to be happy and successful.

Perfect wolfy, territorial, insta love mate vibes. This gave me all the feels in so few pages.

I have been obsessed with werewolf shifter romances since I was a child, albeit they were a lot tamer and more age appropriate back then.

This novella hit all the werewolf stereotypes that rarely work in other romances. This short story follows our FMC and MC as he realizes she’s his mate. There is a bit of an age gap in this that is questionable, but in the context of a werewolf fantasy I’ll let it slide…for now.

The epilogue seriously made me giggle and swoon, and it only worked because of the werewolf pack mentality. If this had been included in any standard romance I would have rolled my eyes, but it totally worked for these characters.

This would have received five stars but there was one scene that threw me out of the book a bit towards the end. I don’t want to say too much since this is a short read, but I loved the trio's chemistry, and the discussions about proper bdsm sub/dom dynamics. Really enjoyed these characters!

This novella is for anyone who has ever wished to have two kinky boyfriends. Our FMC is dragged to a kink club by her best friend, and winds up in bed with two of the hottest guys she’s ever seen.

Our FMC is incredibly skittish, but there is an undeniable chemistry and draw to these two men, who just so happen to own the club.

There was a surprising conflict towards the end of the book that I really was not a fan of. Again – check your trigger warnings. I skimmed that chapter and was able to finish the book, really enjoying the chemistry and little found family between these three characters.

Overall the writing was good and the story was enjoyable. It was definitely a slow burn, and I personally had a hard time feeling chemistry between the characters.

As far as I can remember, this is my first official mob/mafia romance. As firsts go, it wasn’t bad. I thought the plot was interesting, and a great set up for forced proximity and fake marriage tropes.

The chemistry was definitely present between our characters, but I wasn’t entirely sold on the steam. Overall this was a fun, quick read, and it helped me realize how much I might enjoy a full length mafia romance.

Fun, quick read. Recommend if you’re looking for an alien romance to read over your lunch break.

This month was a lot of firsts, and this was my first alien centered romance. I’ve read a lot of sci-fi in the past, but I can’t remember if any of the romantic partners were aliens (maybe one of Jennifer L Armentrout’s earlier books).

This first novella introduces us to a group of sisters who are abducted by a race of aliens who mean to breed them. Before that can happen they are rescued by strong, protective aliens who realize they found their mate.

The chemistry between these two characters was a spark from the very beginning, and it was interesting getting a first look at this world and technology. The writing overall wasn’t my favorite, but it didn’t distract too much from the story itself.

This was a lot of fantasy and world building to dive into without having read any other books in this series. That’s my own fault, but despite jumping in headfirst the author did a great job explaining the dragons, their knights, and how mating between the five parties involved works. The writing transported me back in time to classic literature and fantasy styles, which was refreshing. Although it was scarce on the smut, when it was present it was spicy. This novella made me smile and I enjoyed reading it.

You already know what’s about to happen if you’ve been on TikTok lately. This series has been all over my for you page, especially with the announcement of another book set in this world set to release on Halloween. I’ve been dying to read these books but thought I’d wait until I could get my hands on physical copies. Well. The new release changed my mind, and boy oh boy has this collection had me by the throat ever since.

This book was my first full length novel that I would consider a dark romance. I’ve tried a few of Katee Robert’s villain’s books in the past, and unfortunately those didn’t work out for me. I was worried these books would have the same effect but that couldn’t be further from the outcome.

In this world there is a not so secret society called the LORDs. These are the most powerful men in the country, and they are bred to take whatever they want by any means necessary. The women born into this society might appear powerful as the Lord’s Lady, but in reality their Lord’s can treat them like slaves. If that turns you off, like it would have turned me off a few years ago, this series won’t be for you. However, the one caveat is that Tessier makes it abundantly clear through the character POV’s that both parties are willing and into it.

In this first book we meet Ryat and Blakely. Blakely is dating another Lord, but she becomes a mission for Ryat who must claim her as his chosen. The sexual chemistry between the two is undeniable, especially as Ryat ingrains himself into her life, her routine, and makes every dark fantasy she’s ever had come to life.

Because this was my first novel by Tessier I didn’t know what to expect when it came to her writing style, the plot to spice ratio, or just how deep betrayals could run. I felt like I was keeping a mental map of all the characters, trying to decipher truth from lies and ultimately being surprised time and time again when some new information was revealed. This book was written in dual POV which gave us just enough access through both characters to think we truly understood what was going on before landing head first on a minefield.

There is so much smut in this book to the point where I’m constantly wondering how these women don’t walk around every day with a UTI. That’s probably the only major plot hole I can come up with which had me chuckling in disbelief as I’d turn the page and Ryat would find yet another reason to choke Blakely into bliss.

I loved that this was the first book in this world that I decided to pick up. While each book can be read as a standalone, peripheral characters will pop up in other books in the series. This book did not hold back from extremely graphic depictions of sexual acts, torture, and murder. And for some dark and twisted reason I couldn’t get enough.

I’m a simple woman. When I see the words pumpkin and dog in a book synopsis, I’m going to jump. Especially considering I wanted to try reading more alien type romances. This novel follows our FMC as she discovers her pumpkin in a pumpkin patch as a child. Soon after the pumpkin hatches into a strange puppy with multiple tails who grows alongside her. Things start to get really crazy when our main character takes her not-dog dog out for a walk when she gets home from college, and they’re both abducted by an alien spacecraft.

This novel has dual POV’s which I love as a reader. It was so interesting to see what it felt like to experience life as a not-dog dog and as our main character wakes up abandoned on a spaceship. There was a lot of space talk in this novel with great descriptions of the ship, the sources of food, water, and even oxygen supply.

I had a little trouble coming to terms with the romance aspect of this book considering the fact that her dog transforms for a third time into a half humanoid half animalistic alien creation. I guess as a dog lover personally it felt awkward to change gears and have sexual interest in the being that was once her pet. The characters do address this awkwardness which made it bearable, and towards the end of the novel I felt myself getting more on board with their relationship.

I found the time on the spaceship a little dull, but really enjoyed the later part of the book. Overall I thought the author did a great job creating new species, suspense, and eventually romantic chemistry between the characters. Going into this novel for some reason I thought this would be more of a Halloween story, but the only Halloween discussion is the first chapter when our MC finds her pumpkin.

I think sci-fi romance readers will enjoy this short 250-ish page story. I did mostly enjoy my time reading it, but I wouldn’t say it was out of this world great for me.

After finishing The Ritual I immediately started reading the next book in this series. While each novel can be read as a standalone, characters from previous novels will pop up from time to time with minor roles.

I wasn’t sure, honestly, if I’d make it through this novel. What I loved about the previous book was that it toed a personal line so beautifully, and delicately, that I truly enjoyed the experience from start to finish. This book was emotionally exhausting. I knew if I put it down to take a break I wouldn’t be strong enough to come back to it and finish it. So I never put it down.

This book deals with a woman who’s stepfather, a Lord, groomed her from when she was twelve until the day he died. He did so under the guise of readying her for the life of a Lady, of what it would be like to be passed around from Lord to Lord once she was married off. The scenes of her grooming are explicit, and at times made me feel physically ill to read.

In a way it was fascinating to read about two characters who were both so deeply flawed, but just trying to survive together. There were many times in this novel when I felt myself detach from what was happening on the page, seeing the words but no longer taking in their meaning. In some ways I found this novel deeply cathartic and equally horrifying. I needed Sin and Elli to have their version of a happy ending, and I could not rest until I knew what happened to them.

Because I had already read one novel by Tessier I was now able to pick up on her machinations and plot patterns. I knew when characters were being deceitful, when actions had double meanings, and when something was simply smoke and mirrors. While I didn’t experience quite as many surprises in this second novel, the ones that did come out of left field had a much greater impact.

I don’t think this is a book I could ever read again, and I don’t even know if I recommend it to other readers. This was extremely heavy, emotionally taxing, and physically draining to read. It was also sexy, gorey, and somehow left me rooting for two of the wildest characters I’ve ever read about. I don’t know if I’d ever be brave enough to write a story like this, but it’s given me a lot to think about.
