I just couldn't care less about the characters or relationship. The FMC was also annoying me

It was just making me angrier and angrier. All the ways American women are just reduced to wombs. Great book but very rage inducing

I just did not enjoy this.

I could not get into this book. I think because it is young adult and dealing with religious trauma (of which I have plenty), I just couldn't enjoy it. I typically struggle with books surrounding a cult regardless of age demographic.
This is not for me but I can tell that it is well written and other people would enjoy it.

Page 143: " Izzy was full of people who skewed toward the Asperger's end of the social spectrum and there was no better way to get them to start talking than to ask them a technical question."

The book was published in 2015. Asperger's was merged into the ASD diagnosis in 2013. As an autistic person myself, I can't excuse the slur. There is little reason as to why the author didn't know this as it was a source of controversy.

I couldn’t keep track of who was who and saying what. The text doesn’t distinguish dialogue with quotations, etc. And there are different names and titles for everyone one with it flip flopping between first and surnames and titles.

The writing is poetic and flowery and beautiful but I just couldn’t keep my place given my dyslexia.

I just couldn’t deal with anymore of the idealized “love solves everything”.

I’m from West Virginia. I went to read this and just decided NOPE. I don’t care about the family background and Dopesick is a much more balanced book.
