This book had a lot of potential but I struggled getting through it. The plot itself is so interesting but the characters suck

I disliked Mia. Especially the way she shamed other women for being able to have children. I totally understand how hard miscarriages but taking it out on other people who you don't even know is not okay

The lack of communication between her and her husband was unnecessary. Frankly when Mia decided she wanted a baby she and Harrison should have had a conversation instead of her just assuming he would want one too and Harrison should have told her the truth sooner. The doctors also should have known better not to assume that Mia was the reason they couldn't get pregnant.

I did like that we got what seemed like random POVs but that made sense in the end and I can appreciate a “happy for now” ending

The plot twist was interesting but a little predictable.

I don't mind the "happy for now"ending

3.2

this could have been a four star but the ending was not it! Full review here

I have had the pleasure of seeing Elizabeth Acevedo perform before she became an author so when she started releasing books I immediately put them on my tbr.
I'm disappointed in myself for waiting so long to finally read this. I listened to the audiobook because I know that she narrates it herself so if possible I highly recommend that you read it that way.
I personally feel like Xiomara's story is very relatable. Her experience as a young Latinx woman in a Catholic household is pretty similar to a lot of young Black woman in a Baptist household. The expectations, the double standards, all the b.s. that you have to put up with.
I'm really not that into poetry but this was beautifully written

So.............

You mean to tell me that this chick only became a better person cause she met a dude. Not even met, stalked. Okay

2.5 Kind of interesting but also a lot of trash tropes. I'm not even going to bother with the sequel

Not as good as Big Little Lies.

So many of these characters have issues.
Felicity can go fuck herself
Tess should have stayed with Connor

This was a waste of my time.

You mean to tell me that after your twin sister risks her life to save you you have the nerve to start a petty argument? Shayna cannot be blamed for their parents death. They were hit by someone who fell asleep at the wheel. That person should not have been on the road. And regardless of how you felt about it you're really throwing bla!e for it in her face after she came to save your ass! You ungrateful bitch. And then she took the blame for the murder you committed? Duck no

Highly recommend this for fantasy fans. I loved learning the history of Elatsoe's family, and Darcie Little Badger includes her knowledge as a geoscientist which is really cool. I listened to it on audio but will definitely be getting a physical copy. If possible I would recommend doing a blended read (physical and audio). There's magic, folklore and even vampires in this story and it was such an enjoyable read. Ellie is also asexual and we love to see it

Reread
I'm convinced that nothing in the GrishaVerse will ever get old. Reading this was still just as exciting as it was the first time
