The Poet X
by Elizabeth Acevedo
I have had the pleasure of seeing Elizabeth Acevedo perform before she became an author so when she started releasing books I immediately put them on my tbr.
I'm disappointed in myself for waiting so long to finally read this. I listened to the audiobook because I know that she narrates it herself so if possible I highly recommend that you read it that way.
I personally feel like Xiomara's story is very relatable. Her experience as a young Latinx woman in a Catholic household is pretty similar to a lot of young Black woman in a Baptist household. The expectations, the double standards, all the b.s. that you have to put up with.
I'm really not that into poetry but this was beautifully written
