This was okay. A lot of people compare it to Avatar and you can see that dynamic among the characters but that wouldn't be the first thing that I think of while reading this.
I feel kind of indifferent towards Zelie. I appreciate that she's fierce and a fighter but she also needs to know when to shut up.
Tzain pissed me off when he called Zelie a whore and tried to storm off and was going to just leave her behind because how the fuck does that help anything? What do you gain from this?
Amari honestly felt useless until the end. I get that she was afraid but she's also a badass warrior and only embraces that when she thinks she going to die. She's the one who started all of this so it was annoying to be in her head in the middle of something and she's just not doing anything.
Inan...idk how I feel about him. I feel for him because the people closest too him are turning on him but I also didn't like the way he constantly flopped back and forth about what he wanted and was constantly betraying people.
As per usual I did not enjoy either romance. It just feels so insignificant to everything happening. Like you're literally trying to save the world and here y'all are making heart eyes at each other. And then why would y'all decide to have a party knowing you're on a time crunch? How could that possibly have been a good idea?
At this point, the only reason that I'm considering reading the second one is curiosity and because I already bought it a few years ago

This is the only book in the series so far that I do not like. I know this isn't a book that you really read for the plot BUT the plot was stupid. I also just didn't really like the characters in this one. Did not care for Alaric AT ALL. This one just wasn't it
I stopped after the sixth chapter. Nothing about it was working for me. I can understand a little self doubt here and there but it was almost constant with Alexa. She feels inadequate in her job, calls herself something along the lines of "an average short Black girl" whatever that's supposed to mean. Keeps saying that the guy is out of her league and stressing herself out over a a guy that she literally does not know.
I was curious about what actually happened between Drew and Molly cause apparently he's lying but I don't care enough to keep going. Especially after the way the bride's sister was bitchy towards her and then the creepy guy at the wedding said "Yeah I'd hit that. I've ever fucked a Black girl"
Why would I want racism in a a romance?

*Incoming rant with ALL the spoilers
Sooooooo many things that I disliked here and most of them are honestly just things that I really hate in romance. Frist of all, the opening scene with Georgie throwing food at Travis was weird and honestly disrespectful. There are better ways to get someone out of a funk. The fact that his theme song was "It wasn't me" is cringe, and their first few encounters were so fucking infantilizing. The fact that Georgie apparently gets horny when she hears "Take Me Out to the Ballgame" is weird along with her obsession with Travis. Also her swearing off men because he didn't make it to the appointment for the fireplace was such an overreaction. I really don't like the baby girl thing, that's just a personal preference. Georgie also falls into the "he can't possibly want me because he could have anyone" bullshit while Travis is in the "I'm too fucked up to be loved" camp. Both are hella annoying. Stephen has to be one of the worst siblings in the history of forever. He had no right to tell Travis how Georgie felt about him. The fact that he said to her "he'll chew you up and spit you out" was way out of line and then he suddenly decided to be a brother at the end when really all he did was fuck shit up and cause an unnecessary third act break up - which was stupid as hell. Travis literally says to Georgie " I fucked up but let me explain" and instead of hearing him out she listens to her brother who hasn't given her a single ounce of his attention this entire time. He also was so worked up about the fact that he didn't think Travis could treat Georgie right but why is a person like that your best friend? The phrase "masculine scent" is used a few times and what the fuck does that mean? What makes a scent masculine? Like I get what she was going for but why not name actual scents instead of staying that dumb shit? Also, Travis not wanting kids and suddenly changing his mind is fucking bullshit. You don't change your mind on something like that "when you meet the right person" what was even the point??
As much as I hated this I kind of want to read the next book because it's about Rosie. Should I?

I enjoyed this more than I expected to. It was really good minus the lack of communication and not expressing feelings when it would have fixed all of their problems. I did enjoy the ending though.
This was the first time that we saw more of Aurora and she was not how I expected her to be at all. Don't know how I feel about that but I hope to get to The Sea Witch soon.

This was a quick and easy read! I liked it but not enough to continue the series. My favorite character is Nana Jo, she's a complete badass! I think maybe I would have liked it more without the story within the story

Honestly, the first chapter had me thinking that this book would not be for me. I didn't like the way it started with Stella's parents telling her that they want grandchildren as if she owed them that. I also really hate Philip because he's a disgusting piece of shit.
I adore Stella. I really like her and I LOVE Michael. I love how he was with Stella. He's so sweet and I love his family. I was annoyed with both of them at one point because they weren't communicating with each other but I loved the ending and most of the things that I really disliked were rectified in some way.

This was my most anticipated read of the year and unfortunately I didn't love it the way I loved the first book. Apparently this was supposed to be a much longer series and it had to be condensed. I think that I would have enjoyed it if it had been able to go the way the author intended. It felt like there was a lot crammed into this last book but at the same time it felt like it took forever to get to the event that we were waiting for. While the ending was satisfying in one way, there were also some things that were left open ended in a way that felt incomplete because there were so many things mentioned at the end that were not explored and that would have been nice to see.

This took a little while for me to get into and I'm not sure if it was all of the legal talk or if I just didn't care that much about the legal aspect. I also didn't really care about the characters and I especially didn't care for the romance. But I didn't really enjoy the mystery/thriller aspect of it.
I think I would have rated this higher if I hadn't listened to the audiobook. I didn't like the way that the narrator put on accents for certain characters. But I would recommend to people who enjoy a sort of romantic suspense story

*This is the first in a series! I did not know that going into it
I honestly bought this book because of the Black girl magic on the stunning cover but I'm glad I did!
I loved Issa the most and I am pissed that he was killed. As you can imagine, I did not care for the romance though
I also really liked the spin on The Little Mermaid and the orishas however I have been told that the Yoruba used was not accurate. Please read this review for more details: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show/4089597804
