i unfortunately didn’t love this one as much as the others :( i think this story was sort of rushed? and had less of a focus on storytelling and more of a focus on chih (which i loved that aspect!) but we also weren’t given much more from the characters that we did in the previous novellas so i didn’t really see what actually happened?
still a fun experience! but more of a filler novella than anything else. hopefully the next ones even better <3
thank you netgalley for the e-arc!

i adored it but for a final book it still had a bit more that could have been improved on/developed as a conclusion! (the ending was a lil rushed) i love this book, the characters and most of all the writing style. the messages and stories and love that this book holds between its pages, it is a delight and every good thing all at once. i hope everyone that reads this book adores it.

this book…. this book. i am flawed and amazed and wowowow, i’ve only recently started reading middle grade as well and as my third book in the genre, i’d say it’s going pretty well.
hazel hill is gonna win this one, is a phenomenal book that perfectly encapsulates childhood feelings and the difficulty of being understood, listened to and respected at such a young age. hazel and her friends fight against sexual harassment and stand up for themselves and others as a way to demonstrate that their age doesn’t reflect their experiences.
it was beautiful, thoughtful and so delicate when it needed to be. but primarily it is full of little kids that shouldn’t have to fight but do. and god do they put up a fight <3
the subtle queerness in this book was also!! so good!!! it wasn’t a big thing, she was queer and that was it- her experiences and behaviour didn’t change and AHHHH. i love her, this book and anyone who helped make it.
thank you netgalley for the e-arc, i am sending you a big kiss on the forehead xoxo

this was really fun! nothing spectacular but two boys working through trauma (one boy in particular coming to terms with religion and sexuality) but it wasn’t really what i thought it was going to be so i’m gonna rate it a lil lower, along with some of the dialogue just being,,, really cringey. i still enjoyed reading it though so that’s all that matters 🫶

underwhelmed :( this could have been developed so much better in so many regions. the premise was incredible and i was so so excited but i think the relationships and development of plot and things like that really let it down :,( i really enjoyed the world building and plot itself and powers which is why i’m still rating it 4 stars! but the characters were a little one dimensional unfortunately

i don’t know how to rate this when i feel so torn apart by it. the book was so beautiful but so so painful. and i cried basically the whole way through because ouch ouch ouch. it was my experience growing up in a christian environment (even though i’m an atheist) and having my queer identity ridiculed and laughed at. i think i’m too emotional and too hurt by this book to give it a fair rating <3 it sort of made me feel ashamed for being queer for a part of the book which was not fun. (that wasn’t the books fault, i just feel too much empathy <33) bleh, good but books that make me sad are :( people with religious trauma rise up ✌️
