dark mysterious fast-paced
lighthearted fast-paced

Very cute, nerdy and well done YA. I like musicals and dnd so this was right up my alley. I'm still side eyeing the fact that originally the only woman in the DND group is an evil seductress using men to buy her stuff (c'mon its 2024) but we get Riley and Hoshiko in the end so yay :)

Plot or Character Driven: Character
Strong character development: No
Loveable characters: Complicated

heavy on the worldbuilding, light on plot and mediocre on character development/relationship.
I really enjoyed all the alien culture and backstory to the world they live in. The characters themselves I never felt more for, characters that were actually interesting like Ohan hardly ever got page time. Nothing of actual importance happens until the last 100 pages. And Ashby kind of has a corny speech.
dark emotional reflective medium-paced

I enjoyed the concept and the pov of Ansel, Lavender and Saffy. I liked Blue as well. It didn't really emotionally grip me enough and the writing style started to annoy me towards the end. I am anti death penalty so I like the discussion this can provoke.

DID NOT FINISH: 37%

Like many other reviews state, this book has too much purple prose. She over describes everything in an extremely dramatic fashion.
dark tense fast-paced

definitely a book i couldn't put down once i started reading. lots of character death, and towards the end some made me tear up.
i hate paulinus almost as much as lepida, especially at the end.

interesting world building, it's pretty slow in getting the mystery going but it was fun to read it as it unfolded. i kept feeling second hand embarrassment every time Lije came up with wrong theories and accused people.
