dark

Only a three because the others were so damn good. I felt like this was a filler that’s preparing us for something much bigger coming our way. Intruiged to continue the series
dark mysterious tense

I enjoyed this one. Dark, mysterious and magical. I went in blind and thought it was really surprising and different.

I actually wish it was longer. I’d have loved more time with these characters. And to have more world-building as some of this was kind of vague.

It’s a beautiful ending though. I really enjoyed where we left things.

It was really good. But the big reveal feels so rushed and everything spirals so quickly. The resolution feels like luck, I’m not sure how our characters end up thriving and there’s no feeling of closure or the ‘right side’ winning.

I wanted to love it and for a while I really really did. But it just got ridiculously far-fetched.

Not as good as book one, but still fabulous. Really excited to carry on these adventures. These are the magicians the next generation needs.
challenging dark tense slow-paced

It was good. It was all good (enough) until the
child orgy
. Didn’t think I’d have to say this but it was unnecessary and just bizarre.

The depth of the story is insane though. The way characters are interconnected and the entire family lineages King has mapped out can be interesting (if not sometimes overwhelming).

It was mostly great. Definitely a product of its time. It’s a beast of book but hard to put down and at the very least unnerving. It’s the tension of the two parallel storylines that got me more than any actual fear.

A brilliant sequel. Did the characters justice. You learn so much more about everyone and their relationships. This was great.

Make it queer and I can’t help but love it.

Some of this was predictable. You are screaming at the characters for a lot of this too because some of them are Stupid™️…

And yet I finished this across two days. I just couldn’t put the book down. As dumb as they are, the characters are really lovable.

Lex Croucher is ace at capturing nuanced friendships and crafts such hilarious banter you’ll be sniggering to yourself as you read this one.
adventurous emotional mysterious slow-paced

I was loving it… until the end. It felt so rushed compared to the rest of the pacing. This easily could have been two or three books alone.

But fab characters, impeccable universe building (is that a thing?) and really detailed writing. It’s fabulously diverse and driven by science without becoming so science-y that you can’t understand it.

I definitely want to read more of the series and find out where these characters end up going.
