This was so brilliant.

It’s absolutely hilarious with some of the best banter I’ve read recently. You can’t help but love these characters.

It’s got some really brilliant representation. The queer rep is really lovely and it explores a lot of nuanced experiences. I loved that everyone had a different relationship with their own queerness.

It was okay.

Some were good, some less good. But there weren’t many that were genuinely scary. I wanted to be terrified. I wasn’t.

It feels very scene-setting. Not saying it’s not good. I did enjoy reading it and found it hard to put down. But, I also felt that it was a little lazy, relying on tropes and didn’t do much to challenge some stereotypes of the fantasy genre.
informative

This book is chock-ful of information. I really loved how it challenges the way history is written and recentres women. I learnt some things I wish I didn’t, some of it is depressing and other bits hopeful. I loved the mix of facts and statistics with some artistic flair and personal experience thrown in. It’s beautifully written and really does suck you in. This is one of the best non-fiction books I’ve read!

The commentary on society and how broken our system is is a full on five star.

But I felt the ending just fizzled. We were building and building and then the crescendo just flopped. I wanted more!
