Hassan will forever hold a space in my heart. Hosseini was able to write about the horrors of the war in the middle east while also being able to show class division and privilege and how that transitions into war. The main characters are so heartbreaking, their stories are so heartbreaking, and again this is another book where I couldn't find myself agreeing with Amir, until a little later in the book. This book is absolutely heartbreaking and because we read this in high school the discussions were immaculate!! Everyone's opinion on the topic of redemption was eye opening.
Read this one in my English 101 class. Watching milkman grow and watch his life unravel around him while also seeing what it's like to grow up as a black man and the divisions within the black community. It's a very good read and plenty of surprises.
I've been putting this book off for a while now, and on my 36 hour train ride from LA to Seattle I realized it was the best time to finish a book. The book is narrated by death himself which i can say made this book a lot more enjoyable, a little more heartbreaking but also made me feel comortable in a weird sense? Death himself bringing me comfort. The characters are so lovable even the ones that arent so lovable (Rosa). It takes place during the World War II and what sets it apart from other similarly set books, this one tells the story of a little girl who doesnt get the absolute worst end of it but definitely suffered as well. It wasn't just Leisel's story in this it was also the stories around her. The story of Hans, the story of Rudy, the story of Frau Holtzapfel the story of Isla Hummerman and of Max. It always amazes me when authors are able to write a billion different stories in one story, my imagination ran wild while reading this further wanting to explore the other characters but what we get is what we get. I love this book so much, I hope the movie is just as good
Keeping in mind that this book targets a lower age than the kind I like to read, I think it was a very good book. The story, the characters and the storytelling was good. For it's intended audience, the writing was good as well, it did fall flat on some parts and some parts of the writing were straight up cliché, but I can only have so much! Overall I enjoyed the book and its characters!
Well as the book states, it is simply a book about the author's journey towards Buddhism. The author offers advice and practices that help with reaching enlightenment. However, this book is from the point of view of someone who grew up very fortunate. Variables that would exist to those of us who are not so fortunate, were inherently nonexistent in this book. I did like that the author made the reader aware of her privilege's but none the less there was a lot that I simply couldn't relate to in this book.
The author noting her privilege's was a huge plus for me because I felt like it was something that had to be said when talking about one's journey, which made this reading experience more pleasurable because it didn't feel like I was being lied to.

The book is very interesting and the writing is very straightforward! I always love me a book where I'm not very fond of the main character. While she is a good mom (towards one child at least) she's not very likable, so reading through her journey and disagreeing with her for most of the time was interesting! I liked it a lot it was a good plot and good writing.
If black mirror was a book, this is what it would look like. It's very surreal and the author turns realistic turned surrealisic
