I'm starting to think I should try fake dating someone, it always seems to work out well. I devoured this book, it was great.

It turns out "cozy mystery" is a genre I enjoy, who would have guessed. I'm curious about how this will be a series since it seems unlikely the average restaurant owner would have multiple people die mysteriously around them and that they would then have to solve the mystery before the police because otherwise they are the top suspect. But I look forward to finding out in the sequel!

I was prepared to be overjoyed reading this collection as I am biracial and frequently think and talk about my biracial identity, but in reality it was ok. A few essays were quite good, some were way too long, some were very confusing.

Probably would've given up reading the whole collection ages ago if not for the fact that this has been sitting stagnant on my "currently reading" list on GoodReads for so many weeks and I got tired of it lingering.

This was fine

This is DEFINITELY a Top 5 book of the year for me. Highly recommend, 5/5. Especially if you are a BIWOC. It was an interesting combo of autobiography and discussions/analysis of the "-isms." Each of the 10 chapters is about a topic like "colorism" or "white fragility" or "the male gaze" and then the author talks about her experiences with each and more broadly how they impact BIWOC.

Her writing style is so intimate and vulnerable with such clear and gorgeous prose. She mentions that she wants to make these topics and these discussions accessible to everyone, outside of the gatekeeping of academia so it's written in a very straightforward manner and so powerful as a result.

Truly fantastic, can't say enough postitive things about this book. I want to gift this book to all my pals.

This was cute. I wish it were marketed more as an adult woman re-building her life after a separation, in a new cozy seaside town with her book club and holiday festivities rather than as a romance; since that aspect came extremely late into plot and was very light. Sharper than her first book, which I enjoyed.

I saw him live while I was in college, which was great.

This was great! We love an empowered fat brown girl figuring herself out and not letting the world (or her mom) get her down.
