I usually try to get a little more into a book before DNFing, but I just could not go on with the writing and/or translation.

Sentences and sentence structure made zero sense and the switching of POV within paragraphs was so confusing.

This short story collection was one I was highly anticipating as it was short listed for the Booker Prize and loved by many on Bookstagram and Booktube.

However, I don’t see how it could be so good to be no images or loved. I enjoyed 3 of the stories a lot, but the rest left a lot to be desired.

Additionally, unlike other short story collections, there was no theme connecting them

A heartbreaking story following a couple torn apart due to the travel ban instituted in 2017 in the United States. 

It feels wrong to say that I devoured such a heartbreaking story, but I just couldn’t put it down. One thing I wish could’ve had more was the ending. While I do appreciate open ended endings, I wanted to know what Sama and Hadi did next.

If you enjoyed Honor by Thrity Umrigar in 2022, I think you’ll also enjoy this one.
