Holy redemption.

After I despised Hairpin Bridge (literally gave it a one star review on Goodreads, but a 0.5 star review in my heart), Taylor Adam’s newest released has shocked me.

I absolutely loved it. 

Read it in two sittings and would’ve read it in one if I hadn’t started it when I was tired. 

Looking for a book you can read in one sitting this summer? This is it. 

The twists!! The beach setting!! The mix in of authors and running away from pasts.

Everything was right up my alley. 

Alright I’ll be the odd one out. At the time I’m rating this, it has a 3.19 rating on Goodreads. 

I LOVED this book. I read most of it in an afternoon. While I usually hate thrillers with a lot of description, this one really worked for me. I read most of it in one sitting and I loved the revenge aspect of this. 

Pick this up if you enjoyed Honor, but the author is no Thrity Umrigar.

Really enjoyed the interconnected POVs 

I rarely DNF this close to the ending, but I’m sorry I just can’t go on. 

Nothing is holding my attention and when I can finally get focus back Richard goes into a tirade about film. Don’t worry, I won’t forget the pointless like two chapters with his soon to be very jealous ex wife 

One’s first reaction after finishing a ‘thriller’ should not be, “that’s it?”

I’d classify this one closer to a domestic drama or mystery and think that marketing it as a thriller does it a disservice.

After hating The Younger Wife, I didn’t have much hope for this one and turns out I was right. Can Hepworth write a mystery or thriller that does not involve a mental illness or medical diagnosis?

The characters were flat with zero development. The plot twists didn’t add much, including the last few that just induced eye rolls. 

This premise had promise: house on a cliff where a couple talks to people when they stand on the edge when the husband isn’t able to save one. 

The premise was the best part of this. 

I have a lot of thoughts but mainly this took me over a month to finish and I hate when thrillers have epilogues.

It's hard for me to rate this one, that's for sure. I think this one started out really strong, but near the end it got chaotic in more of a stream of consciousness kind of way. 

Edit: the more I think of this one, the more I did not like it. 

While it was a perfect escapist read to pick up while in COVID isolation, I don’t think it was good 

I am a bit confused on why the publishing industry is throwing so much weight behind it because it’s no masterpiece. I’m guessing it got the marketing dollars because the author is a editor at Knopf and just bought like a $4 million place in NYC?

Would recommend for: COVID/other illness isolation and vacation reading. 

Audiobook narrator was one of my favorites, Marin Ireland.

Another redeeming quality is that it sold in under a day on Pango
