hands down one of my favorite graphic novels to date. so warm & gentle & full of love and friendship & all the tender ways we show up for our friends. i would love to read more!

Can the real Wyrm of Underwood please stand up? I highly enjoyed reading this book, from the Epigram to the Epilogue. The details were so intricate and beautiful and the characters well fleshed out (for lack of better term) and the plotline progresses seamlessly. I giggled, I chuckled, I gripped my Kindle in frustration and then again in love. 

While this isn't the type of book I'd usually pick up, there's a certain charm and mystery to The Dollhouse Academy, a jarring sense of almost reality. For me, multiple I narratives in a book become quickly confusing, though perhaps the echo is what the author intended. It certainlh makes you look at television in a different light.

i think i wanted to love this book on concept, as a sort of modern fable, but the tone felt inconsistent from story to story. the first story about in Gaza wrenched by heart, but others like the pigeon were not as compelling.

Sturge Town is a slow moving, steady, and quite a sexy collection of poems thst capture the heat, joy, danger, and despair of Jamaica. 

Reading this in 2025 is chilling..the way Hulls describes n the rise of the Mao regime seems like a parallel to how America is right now. From the 1930s to early 2022, the memoir follows the history of trauma in Hull's family. The lines are beautifully drawn, really like a work of art. 

Eddie Ahn's Advocate follows the life of a young enviromental justice nonprofit lawyer from early life to now. Along the way, Ahn shows us his Korean roots, his path through school and early days in San Francisco. Ahn's kind soul shines through the stories, though he never labors on the difficult parts. As a reader, I sometimes found myself wishing the story progressed a bit faster.

There's an insatiable curiosity in Villarreal's Magical/Realism where every detail, no matter how seemingly insignificant, is mined deeper and deeper until an universal truth comws out. The topics in this collection range from Nirvana to Game of Thrones to Selena and I never once felt bored or disengaged. Villarreal's a chameleon, shape shifting throughout the book as a young Mexican immigrant, a former wife, a troubled teen, and an academic powerhouse. Yet it is the big heart approach to her subjects, be it herself or Kurt Cobain, the Witcher, her father, or Jon Snow, that makes the work critical and compelling. A great read! 

 This book had me bawling, especially at the end! I'm a sucker for stories about immigration and food and Pham ties those two themes together effortlessly. 

Whoa!!!!! The seeds are finally coming up to fruit (though I'm still confused by Murderface Mikhail). I'm continually impressed by the way Guillroy explores plants vs. God, pitching the natural and unnatural in the way that only makes sense if you have lived in Louisiana.
